Sealing aluminium sheet overlaps?

Postby Alpha95 » Wed Mar 18, 2020 4:58 pm

Hi all. So we have been getting along great so far with an old wood top house boat, just call it a floating teardrop.
Anyway, the top is being changed to marine ply because of the amount of rot, just doing the whole lot and get it out the way as its having a full refit as is.
I want to skin this in Aluminium sheets with slight overlaps between the sheets.
What's the best product to use for the sealing and best ways to apply?
It rains a lot in the UK and we will be living on board full time so any advice will be great.
Thank you

I would probably use Butyl tape or a marine grade caulk but I would check a boat builders website to check. My sister just refurbished a 14-foot aluminum john boat and she uses marine-grade silicone caulk :)

A little late to the party, but flat-seam sheet metal roofs are general done with a lap seam like this, and soldered. Also, normally done in copper.
