Nontoxic alternative to TB2 for pmf

Postby Ystei » Sat Mar 04, 2023 1:10 pm

Hi everybody! I'm planning my flatbed truck camper build and considering using 2" foam with a wooden frame and pmf over..

The build will be about 18'x8' including the over cab bed box..

Was planning to use TB2 and paint outside and inside but i understand that TB2 has quite some of-gassing of formaldehyde etc and i wonder if there are alternative glues that i can use for the inside to try to lower the VOC...

Any ideas?

I'm all for caution when it comes to using hazardous materials, however, where are you getting your information from? I'm looking at an MSDS for Titebond II and it seems to have acceptable levels of VOCs that will mostly be released in the drying stage. In its available form it is rated at ~ 3g/L. Paint with less than 250 grams of VOCs per liter is considered low-VOC paint. And No-VOC paint, as regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency, will have five or fewer grams of VOCs per liter of paint.

Well, I was a little surprised, but using it in PMF would seem to outgas more than a chair joint. https://impressionsofaholobiont.com/201 ... maldehyde/

Ystei,

I understand some people are much more sensitive to chemicals than others.
I'm using TBII on the outside only. Elmers glue on the inside with crumbled packing paper.
Also, I think most of the out-gassing happens during the built in the garage or outside.
Which can be a few months to years, as in my case.
