The podpads are used at festivals in the UK in the summer time. Now I've heard that it always rains over there, but that picture proves otherwise.

In the wintertime the sun really isn't strong enough for a solar panel, and on an overcast day, it doesn't work at all. If it did I would suggest 12V mattress warmers.
