WOW !!! Much faster than a Bugatti Veyron! Not. Take a look at this link http://www.car-videos.net/performance/speed.asp?Speed1=50&Speed2=100 If you've modified your car for 20 mpg while achieving that kind of horsepower, you should build cars... not trailers!

Well, maybe I exaggerated a little bit  but that old Northstar engine is pretty quick. Tell you what, bring your Bugatti & trailer up from Texas & we'll have at it on the forest roads of Upper Michigan (old Uper saying - hold my beer & watch this). Nothing I like better than fast company. :D

Aw, now we're talking my other love. You could say I've been there and done that (on and off road). Now I'm restricted to my mobility scooter.

I do have an Abarth 850TC that I was going to race vintage. But the stops were thrown out when I went on oxygen 24/7. Var. just won't let me set up an oxygen system in the car :(

We tow our teardrop with a Ford Flex or a Dodge Ram 1500. For longer trips we use the truck, more cargo room.

I might enjoy the trip, but my Bugatti

Lots of folks know our rig ...

... 2000 Saturn SL2 Wagon (twin-cam 4-cylinder) with an automatic:
Image
... about 26mpg without the rack on the 'drops roof, 22-24 with stuff in the basket. I thrash it, and it happily takes it!

Believe it or not, GM rated it to tow 2000# ... ...
Image
... the '59 Caveman Camper weighs 1600# empty, and here we are loaded up and heading for central Nevada in Sept. 2012 ... it handled it just fine, but forget about getting into overdrive, or over 60mph, and we had at least one truck pass us going up a long steep hill! Also, only got 10-mpg ... :o ...! (We used our F-250 PowerStroke to tow the Caveman to the East Coast and back this summer ... 16-18mpg, and nothing passed us unless I allowed it to ... :D ...!)

Now shopping for a '07-or-later 4-door Tacoma or Frontier V6 5-speed 4X4, but we're in no hurry just yet.

This is my latest tow (2011 Ford Edge), 14 - 15 mpg towing the Field and Stream. But much lighter than a Caveman. ;)

My other two tows ('56 F-100 & '59 Ford Wagon) and posted earlier in this thread. :)

The only vehicle we have for towing and everything else is our '98 Kia Sportage. It's a real workhorse and now needs some work on the front end suspension. I love it being a manual rather than an automatic as I prefer to drive the car rather than the car drive me. It's now collected about 240000 klm's on the clock and going well.

We have a Honda Element that has been pretty good for us. It is a bit utilitarian in features...but very functional in terms of hauling dogs, camping, and towing a small skiff or packing a canoe.
