Jack, I love your rig, I could see having that with the Subaru power and cruising all over the states for months on end, that would be a blast.

When we got Bubbles our tow vehicle was my '99 4runner (3.4, auto, 4x4.)

Image

Two problems with the '99: Lack of power and lack of fuel. The little 3.4 struggled to pull Bubbles' 1100+ lb weight and MPG was dismal (11 MPG crossing Wyoming into a strong headwind.) Worst of all, with only an 18.5 gallon tank, I ended up running out of gas near Prineville, OR.

Image

After we got back from Oregon the '99 went up for sale and pretty soon I had this. Another 4runner but this one's an '07. Much more powerful 4.0 V6, 5 speed auto vs the 4 speed on the '99, better MPG (despite being a bigger vehicle) and best of all, a big 23 gallon tank.

Image

Puppy Shaila is happy because she gets to go with us on this trip (this is on our way to Wyoming last August.)

Eventually we want to have the option of pulling it with Liz's little 4 cyl Jeep, "Morgan"

Receiver-equipped bumper is installed, now all we have to do is get the electrical wired up...

That's awesome!

I've got to know the story behind that one! Do you have a build thread? Would love to see more pics of that, especially interior.

I'm a military vehicle enthusiast (used to own a 1952 M-43 Ambulance) and I'm retired Army, too, so I love it!

That's a beautiful wagon! I'd like to build something like that.

It is a Willys Station Wagon 2 wheel drive street rod, before they were Jeeps. Here is how it started:

I put the cart before the horse; just picked up a 2005 escape hybrid , which will tow my Foamie next spring!

Hi Slow Cowboy,
I have no pictures, but I will take some tomorrow. I have as tow vehicles two different cars. One is a 2006 Cadillac CTS. It has a v6 engine developing 220 horsepower and getting about 28mpg. The other is a 1986 Tiffany Classic with a Mercury 302 v8 engine. It gets (on the highway) about 22 mpg. I'll post pictures tomorrow, if I learn how.

Darrell

Hey Slow, I moved down here after spending 30 years in Gillette, so I am kind of familiar with your area, too.

For the first three years I've had the teardrop, I towed it with my 2005 Subaru Forester, but have recently gotten a 2009 Ford F-150 to tow with. I think the Ford will have an easier time on hills like Donner Summit (1500 ft to 7,000 ft in <60 miles).

Old but comfortable Cadillac. 20 mpg pulling the trailer. But it will still hit 100 mph from 50 in about 3 seconds with trailer on an isolated U.P. road. 8)
