Need a lesson on trailer hitches, ball mounts etc

We have a Ford Explorer with a trailer hitch that has a 1.25 inch receiver (if that's what you call the square shaped part that the ball fits into. We are looking at a Cabin A camper with a 2 inch ball. What do we need to buy in order to tow this camper?

Minimum a ball and ball mount.
But you need to know the weight limit of your hitch. And the weight of what your towing. You might need to up grade your hitch to have a 2" receiver.

We have checked out the weight limits and are good to go. I've been calling around trying to find a 1.25 ball mount. Kind of hard to find.

To order the correct ball mount, you need to level the trailer on level ground, then measure the height of the hitch from the ground. Then you need to measure from the ground to the bottom of the receiver. Give both those numbers to your local hitch dealer or etrailers.com, and they will figure out how much drop or rise you need to have the trailer level while towing.
