A little something I whipped out today

Postby desertmoose » Fri May 31, 2013 7:29 pm

It's a "discada" or "Cowboy Wok"

It's used for cooking over a fire. Made from an old plow disc and a couple of used horseshoes (Thanks Britta). I added removable pipe legs to hold it over our propane campfire. 22" in diameter, oughta hold enough for Kat and I...

Easy to make, except for the hours of grinding to remove the rust pits... Next time I'll just buy a new disc that's not all rusty.

I'm thinking I might try fajitas....
Or maybe something else...
I have a few day to decide before Kat goes shopping.

BTW, did you notice the new campfire? Should look pretty familiar...

I made dinner on it tonight to try it out. Made a batch of chili rellanos.

Worked good, except even on low, I had too much heat.

Planning on extending the legs tomorrow. Maybe another 3" to get away from the flame a bit.

The campfire puts out plenty if I need it.

I'll see what pieces of pipe I have laying around to weld on the existing legs.

It's as gorgeous as it is functional! Love it! Those horseshoes are a really cool detail.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea...
I'm not that creative. I didn't dream this up.
There are a lot of these for sale out there. I just made one instead of buying it.

(Can you say cheap??)
