Local Find 228F 9/64 NOS Never Fired!!! Advisement??

Okay I need to take a vacation away from CL/Ebay/Flea Markets....and focus on the family, my career....yeah right!!

Is that a garage sale?? do I see anything green? let eyes focus, let eyes focus

"I bought this lantern new for my father as I had broken his after borrowing it 50 years ago. My father put it in his garage and never opened it." Is what the seller told me as we unpacked the Minty 228F!! everything is there, I mean everything.

WHAT SHOULD I DO!!??!!!

I guess I keep this as a garage Queen never unwrapped? Sell it to Japan for a new hybrid? Maybe trade somebody for three magic beans??

Maybe a trade it the way to go??

There was an unused unfired 228e that i did not bid on stupid me fell asleep at bidding time, and I got a 228J unused coming. I got a 200A ( birthday lantern ) and two other 200a should be in the mail.

A unused 228K did not sell for 29. I should've bid on that one as well.. It would have matched my unfired 228H., I have a 228F that in great shape, but.... . . .do I need an Unused 228F hahahah want to sell it. ha hahah

That is one nice lantern!

Boy, that is a dilemma. Once undone, that packaging would never be the same, so if you are in it for the money or collection factor, then, no, you probably should just drool on it.

If, on the other hand, it had fallen into my hands, it would be burning right now! They were made to run.

fire it up and if it is really not ever fired you may need to blow the air tubes out.

then if it goes and lights good and holds pressure.

keep it and take it with you in your teardrop camping.

I use all old stuff I got. in every day life.

nothing gets to sit on a schelf gathering dust!

and nothing gets resold or given to any japnese on ebay.

Hahhaa I hear yah slow...

I think I am at a point where I need to slow down on looking at vintage lanterns...each one tends to be a trugger point for rationalize the need to make an offer.

I will not ship to Japan, maybe I will have a party at the next gathering to open and do a light up with the gang.

Beautiful lantern. the 22*E are about my favorite. So far I have fired every one of mine. Including the ICCC 20th anniversary lantern. One of 275 made. Couple of months back I got a near perfect Thermos inverted that had never been fired. I had it burning a few hours after it got here. It did not come in a box so probably no great loss. But your 220E has an almost perfect box. What to do, what to do.

Those photos look suspiciously like the lantern that was for sale on CraigsList for a long time. I think he wanted $150.00 for it.

I'm not sure how anyone could rationalize that a1964 Coleman lantern should be worth that much. New, in box, never fired, etc. - how does that take a 40.00 item and some how drive it up 300%?

I've never been able to justify that sort of spend.

Ted it is all relative, and the seller is a relative of mine.

He did a bundle deal on this lantern, a wapak DO and a bunch of griswold fry pans, a red tin box and some cool BBQ extendo forks. He is a collector nut, but in a good way.

I will tell you the price on TI, and then maybe a lite up as well.

Of course now you have confirmed your TI slot next to the marshmallow lady!!
