Dilemma

Postby Rolly » Mon Jun 03, 2013 11:44 pm

I have a dilemma. I found a Bernzomatic propane heater at a yard sale last weekend, a little rust on the grill but otherwise it just needs a good cleaning. Inside it has two old, empty Bernzomatic propane cylinders with pictures of the heater on the label. Some internet research on model TX900A reveals they had a defective burner and caused many deaths from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. They have been recalled and there is a bounty to return it. there about 4,000 of 40,000 still out there. If you have one don't use it. Do I keep it for a display only or take the bounty?

You could pick up a Coleman 501 and with this Bernzomatic you have, you could start a hazardous gas pressure collection. I'd get the dough on it, if not, I'll bet years down the road you'll just pitch it out. Doug

Looks like the bounty is $250 what did you pay for it? I would not use it at all. But if you want to keep it for a collection you should make it so it can never be used. You now posted in a open forum that you have it and know of the danger. I definitely would not sale it to another person or some sue happy beatnick might go after you. your call.

Take the money! If there is ever a bounty on 501's I will take mine in. Especially if the bounty is 250 bucks. That is a great return.

Sell? Throw out? What do these words mean? I am pretty sure my widow will have a 30 yd dumpster in the driveway before the undertaker gets my coffin in the ground. I just hope she doesn't combine shipping. The Bernz o matic heater is in a brown truck on its way to New York and destruction. The letter said they will even pay for shipping. When I get the bounty I am going to spend some if not all of it on Newell Rubbermaid products, it only seems fair. I am sure they make many things that I need/want.

YEAH! Bounty means Booty for what you really want! Im contemplating a dumpster for the less than clingy things for my escape from NJ (no worries..no Coleman will be disposed of) but 1 4x8 trailer of needful things will make the trip to seed my usefulness further West.. :D

Today in the mail I received my bounty check from Newell Rubbermaid. Yay. Part of the bounty went for a couple of Hilmor 9in1 screwdrivers. http://hilmor.com/products/9-in-1-multi-tool

My feelings, OK if you don't sell it and you have a fatal heart attack and some poor soul buys it at your estate auction and decides to try it and joins you in the after life.

Nice screw driver. Things like that are so nice for the emergency tool kit.
