I then spent months contemplating what to do. I did a few mock constructions with temporary materials.

We decided we needed,
*3 beds going widthways
*5 foot 4 inches head room for the misses, and 5 foot 9 inches for me ( it sounds strange but read on)
*A decent amount of indoor bench space for an indoor kitchen, but provision for a rear kitchen outside.
*Teardrop or similar design
*For it to be able to be stored in our garage with a 6 foot 3 inch high opening restriction.
*Be able to use the old pop up awning, which must be a replacement because its in good order.

Welcome,

It appears we are in a similar position, with some shared goals (except I would require a bit more headroom). I was given a frame from a pop up and am coming up with a plan. I'm curious to see some mock ups or drawings of what you have planned. Why the inside/outside kitchen?

Enjoy!

Hi, This has only an indoor kitchen. both types of kitchens have their advantages. Conditions are not always ideal for outdoor cooking, and we get allota wind.
But cooking inside a little camper is a worry, too.

This was taken 3 months ago. It was easy to do the basic construction, but I found the finer finishing work has really slowed me down :NC
I have framed out a very tall doorway, to minimise bending down while going thru the door.
The layout comprises of, beds running across , single at front, double at rear. double has dining table underneath.
Ply construction. 5/8 inch treated pine ply floor, 1/4inch pine ply inside walls, 3/24inch hardwood marine ply exterior cladding, 3/24 ply roof

Yesterdays photo, The roof tilts to go from 5foot 4 to 5 foot 11 inches.
It is hinged at the back, and will have gas struts.
A fair amount of trial was done before the back hinging decision, as the rear of the camper is way lower than the front, and space above the door was critical.
Now I can walk straight in to the camper with a straight back!!

My current dilemma is do I use canvas for the infill when the roof is raised?? or sandwiched ply/ timber core??

Looking forward to a roll out so that we can see the top in the raised position.

Exposed roof spars will remain at this stage, maybe lined later with styrene and carpet.
fridge cabinet shown here.
The only major mistake I've made recently is thinking I would have time to make the window frames and sashes from wood, so I cut out openings to suit this.
Only to realise later that I needed to buy readymade used ali windows which were not the ideal size........ :frightened:

The black tar coating on the chassis has kept it rust free
