Will there be a custom stove contest this year?

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Will there be a custom stove contest this year?

Postby Mukilteo » Sat Sep 28, 2013 12:52 pm

Was just wondering.
I have a couple of ideas. One I'm not artist enough to do.

I might be up for one again this year. I gave mine away at the trailer rally a couple of weeks ago. I also inherited 2 425's this last week.

I would be willing to play again. I even have a fairly useless piece of semi-Coleman stuff for the prize sitting in the basement. If more are interested, we could get it going again.

It isn't so much for the prize as it is for the fun of it.
I can sweeten the pot so to speak.

The problem last year was... lots of interest in the contest, but only three participated. Come on guys we can do better! I already have the stove on my workbench and have a few idea's brewing. :D

I don't think it mattered that there were only three. Many people here, myself included, enjoyed the contest very much. Even tho most did not participate, the contest was a good motivator for those that did.

Part of the problem may have just been the timing. The holiday season gets busy for quite a few folks and others were deeply engrossed in builds they wanted ready for the spring. I would be happy to act as contest host again. Do we want it the same as last year? Or would it be better to allow more time to submit entries after the first of the year? I guess if we got the word out now, there would not be such a rush to come up with an idea and get it done.

That makes sense.
Maybe have the judging in the spring.
I can donate a prize. Either a 502 stove or a Peak 1 model 400 stove.
Ask if others has something they could donate so it isn't all on you.
Have a first, second and third place prize and let the first place winner pick what they want first, etc.

I am in, but I may have to run over my stove with my pickup if Doug starts crushing lanterns. Just sayin. :D

Ok. I'll just copy and paste the rules from last year with the appropriate date changes for this year. If we want to add prizes for multiple places, I can make that change as well. I have a Coleman lantern Avon bottle (empty) that I will put up for a prize ( I can already see Kirk swigging scotch from it  ). Eric offered up a single burner stove. Does someone have something that would fall in between those for second place?

Not to worry Kirk....I'm crushing stoves too! Too many floating around keeping prices down.

We don't need to do it for a prize...how about just having bragging rights?
