1928

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

1928

Postby Joamon » Thu Oct 31, 2013 7:53 pm

Earlier this year I was at an antique store some distance away and I saw a slant 228. It was a little more than I wanted to pay, so I walked. As the weeks rolled by I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I made a long trip back. Not only was it still there but I got the clerk to make a phone call so I could make an offer. Offer was accepted. So I brought it home and there it sat. Waiting for a tear down and cleanup. I replaced the vent, but other than that it was in good shape. Fast forward about six months, I am out working on a three burner project and this thing is about three feet away saying try me, try me. Sooo I blow the thing off and out with compressed air and wiped it down. Then I filled up the tank and gave it the rocket test burn. Yes we have a go. Tie on some new mantles and here we go. It's 85 years old and has the original mica globe and it's been running for three hours now. Go figure. :)

Nice lantern there. :D
I found one at a garage sale several weeks ago... $5.00. Not near as clean as yours and missing the mica globe. It is a glass globe on it. :(
I don't have pics yet but will soon.

I would love to but it is a dissasembled state as we speak. :(

I will post pics of it when done. Pics of it apart are on the Coleman site. Was asking them what to put on the cage parts after its been in the cleaning vinegar to keep it from rusting again. Thanks for the comment.
