First build. 4'x8' HF Teardrop (Lots of photos)

Postby Swank1975 » Mon Mar 10, 2014 6:09 pm

The wife and I pulled the trigger Sunday and started on our build.

Using a 4'x8' HF Super Duty trailer. Trailer is assembled and wheel bearings were cleaned and packed upon assembly.

Floor went on today. 3/4" treated ply coated on the bottom with a waterproof membrane you brush on joints for shower pan installs i had left over from the bathroom project. The stuff goes on blue and dries green. It is a rubber coating. I figure it will help keep this floor protected from spray. I used carriage bolts and bolted throught he plywood and the top holes on the HF trailer. I used nylon locking nuts. Next is to lay out the side profiles for the walls.

Started on the side profile today.

Have to splice the tail end of the wall to get the length I want on the 8' trailer.

Once this glue dries I will finish the profile at the rear and cut with jigsaw. Then I will use this side as a template for the other side and cut and extend it.

Today's update. I still need to go get my metal 90degree brackets to secure the walls down to the floor. Where the carriage bolts were on the floor I measured their spots out where the wall would sit on them and routered those spots out. The spars are 2by lumber being ripped down on the table saw then glued and nailed in place with the nail gun. I want to get the walls secured, the spars in, and the inside headliner in place. Then I'll start on the wiring for lights.

More pics of tonights progress.. I secured the walls down to the floor with metal bracket from home depot with holes in it. I cut a 4' piece into 12 - 4" long pieces and used screws to secure them tot he walls and floor. My walls sit on the 4' wide plywood so the inside dimension is 46 1/2". I figured this will make covering the roof with 4' wide aluminum later much easier.

Today I am finishing up the spars, roughing in the roof vent, and starting the hatch. After I finish those items it's off to get luan and sanded ply for the interior and galley work.

And more photos. This is a blast. So I built the galley hatch and cut it out.
