Filon -VS- ???

Postby Atomic77 » Sat Mar 29, 2014 8:20 pm

For my build, I had planned on skinning my walls with Filon. I know of a RV Wholesale supplier that has 7, 7.5 and 8 foot widths in continuous lengths. My intentions were to bond the Filon to the Lauan and vacuum bag it. Yesterday I went to the supplier to look at it and found out that it is $1.50 per square foot. (Someone on the phone originally told me $1.50 per running foot which was just too good to be true.) So that's way more than I was intending to spend. My walls are 7'2x16' which puts the cost of the skin at more than I was wanting to spend. I really like the look of the Filon and was looking forward to it because it would be a perfect surface for my custom paint. Now I don't know what to do. Kind of a set back here for sure. Would love some feedback. Thanks!

Shadowcatcher...I got all excited for a second... Until I realized that's almost double the cost plus shipping. Maybe my local place is a better deal than I thought.

I found mine on ebay. Guy was selling 4, 4'×8' pieces for $150 with free shipping! They had a couple of other teardrop supplies for sale too. This was about a year ago though.

The problem I'm running into is that I need an 8x16 piece so there are no seams. So far, $1.50 per sq.ft. is the best price I can find. Not sure what other options are.

I've got the same issue... My TD is big girl and 4x8 is just too small... looking for larger full sheets to cover my sides.

I found 8' wide continuous roll filon, but it's now gone up to 2 bucks a square foot since my last post.
