Frame questions

Postby Ropes4u » Fri Apr 11, 2014 6:25 am

So I have recruited a welder and picked a design, we decided to build a Li'l Bear

Now I want to stretch it to a 5x8 frame which after talking to Grant I feel like we have a good plan for the frame and tongue.

The trailer will be a 1/2" plywood foam sandwich with an aluminum skin. Build as simple and as light as I can with basic tools. We are buying a 2200# axle with e brakes installed.

Any huge blunders?

It seems to me that you need to provide considerably more information to folks here about your design and plans to get well informed feedback.

Is that 1/2 ply inside and out with foam in the middle?

You can go thinner on the inside for sure, and the outside, too, for that matter.

Maybe I should post a drawing, but it is going to be a simple modernistic / cub design. 3/8 Baltic birch plywood with 1/4 - 1/8 skin and 3/8 center will probably be the ticket.

Sounds like your design is fairly similar to mine. How's it coming?

Blunder? To begin with, listening to Grant is an anti-blunder. (I can't Google-up an antonym for the word blunder BTW) The guy is the Dalai Lama of teardrop building. I'm being serious here. I would have told you that a sandwiched wall with the "guts," or "bones," made from 3/8" plywood is too thin. Heck, I prefer 3/4". But if Grant suggests it, by all means go for it.

The guy has made more quality teardrops than I'll ever see.

I assume you've seen his last build he documented on Facebook? https://www.facebook.com/teardrops.net?fref=ts
