Postby Ron Dickey » Fri Jul 11, 2014 2:29 pm

I am building my second trailer more a teardrop then the last.

Mine would be called a grass hopper by those who own teardrops. Where the name came from I do not know. :scratchthinking:

I use to call it Cross Bow. I called it that because it has the front curving from left to right and with the tung is looks like a cross bow.
However I am changing the name to Little Blue Trolley it also has a trolley top and is blue to match my house.

Ron

P.S. You can make 12 choices and can change the answer in the poll anytime

my old one looks like at teardrop in the font and the new one looks like at teardrop in the back. got a saw so I can fix this

There are so many things you can do and designs are endless.

As new folks come on to this forum new ideas also come and younger folks have new fresh ideas keep us older ones alive and helping us crate new and more simplified ideas.

Mine is a "bow front for 4". Mainly because I saw you use it, and didn't want to use and specific names like "raindrop". It's gonna be the Regale Eagle when it's done though, my team GA Southern (the Eagles) and Regale because, well... It sounded good.

I'm always interested to see how others come up with their names. Will be following.

hmm that design looks familiar, in 2012 I went to the IRG and saw one there and I was already in love with the Raindrop so it made sence for me. But there are many build out there with that design. Take a look my front is a little heavy and I saw some after I did it that are much lighter.

I am changing the name to Little Blue Trolley. Doug H. talked me into at trolley top. I first saw his I think and a local gathering. Where I camped in my other trailer. The Box Kite.
It has taken it's last run to IRG this year. I was going to retire it but got in accident on the way home and it got its feathers ruffled. broke a shock and some buzzes.

I am beginning to design new parts for the trailer and should have the saddle bag design in place as well.

What are you going to use for the frame. Make your own or buy one?

looked at you designs in your album look nice.

Good luck on your build

The frame is a large boat frame. We used it because of the width (71") and cut the back off. We replaced the axle with a torflex. And heavy.. yes, It will probably end up heavy, but it will camp all 4 of us, so I can live with that.

You design was one of the ones that I looked at when I was designing mine. So, yes, very familiar. I really liked the raindrop, but just need it to be bigger. (6x10.5x5)

We are fitting the cabinets now, and should have the side walls up permanently. Below is about where we are now.

BTW: I like the saddle bags, interested to see how that plays out.

Thanks,
Brian

Take a look at your welds on the boat trailer I have an old one under my box kite which failed. yours looks better built then mine.

You build looks thought out.

Thank you. Yes, that is it on the build journal, link is in my signature as well.

I tell everyone there is at least 3 times as much planning time on my trailer as actual build time (cutting, nailing, gluing, etc). It seems like we are constantly trying to figure out the next step. Then, looking to make sure that isn't going to either screw up something else, or get ahead of ourselves in some way. So, yea, lots of thought as gone into it thus far. And oddly enough, I already find myself saying "on the next one...".

Yeah, we were a little hesitant about the boat trailer, and were having a tough time finding some to buy steel from locally and weld at a descent price. So we bought it, and come to find out, I had a friend with mucho welding skills. He took care of the mods for us. Also we were going to keep the axle that came with it , but it was much too stiff, so we put a torflex on. That was a great move, rides much better now.

Thanks for looking,

Brian
