Kayak- Canoe building class

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I got a nibble on my class idea I threw out there to the local paddlers here in my area....

[The email I got:
What do you think of this boat??
http://cnckayaks.com/rotator-shrike/
I like the one with hatches and would want a good size cockpit.
I was wondering what you meant when you mentioned building a boat?
I have limited woodworking skills. I took two classes on wood working, but am very much a novice.]

Any one who wants to build one or just stop by and watch or assist is welcome.....
What I had in mind was, whoever wants to build themselves a boat, I have the space and the tools to do it...I will assist in all that is needed....

I just told my wife that when I finish the TD that I would very much like to build some sort of wooden boat..

MAN!!! The eye roll that came with that. She already says that I have too many hobbies, but this looks like very cool stuff. And when you get finished you have a one-of-a-kind boat.

Great work. Keep up with the pics!

Since its completion, It paddled great for my 265 lb. friend...
And I took it to the Crawford lake gathering last month and two of us paddled it 200 lb. in back and 150 lbs. In the front seat, is stable and tracks well....

I built mine over 40 yrs ago and just had it out in the water for the first time this year several weeks ago. Years ago, I had a 1969 Sunbeam Alpine GT and when I had the home built kayak on the roof I got more attention than I get now pulling my TD down the road.122751 Built it with my father. Have a lot of good memories from those days.

Too bad you aren't closer to Pa., I'd hit the water with you. Back when I built mine, they didn't even have the store bought paddles that you can buy today. I am still using the homemade paddle that I made when I built the kayak with my father. Actually I like it better than the one I've bought from a store.

Art, paddles are easy to make, and it dosen't take much blade to move you through the water...
