Congrats, Randy, on finding your birthday lantern! And that 236, too!

What a great duo of lanterns... I think the 242B/C with the spherical globes to be one of the lovliest appliances ever conceived. And the 236/237 is the "big block" (-engine) of lanterns! You certainly scored some desirable nickel, there!

:-)

What happens in Burning Man, stays in Burning Man.

Sort of

Well I left home Sunday 24th and made it to Unionville NV and camped in a real nice free county park. Twain and Tears is held there. Headed to Burning Man Monday and about 1.5 miles from pulling off the pavement onto the playa it rained and closed the gates. No driving on a wet playa so I headed back to Unionville for another camp. Got in Tuesday. Weather was great, not to hot, some wind on Friday and Saturday but very little dust where we camped. Out where the art is put was dusty. Had good camp mates and some neighbors we have connected with. Good food, good drinks. :D :D. I fired up my Birthday Lantern but mostly used a real nice 286 single large mantle I have. For cooking ( heating water ) I used a 533 I just got from a member on the coleman forum. That thing lights right up. Nice to have when windy. Also used my $1.50 425E and an older 413E. I can probably do with only on 2 burner. Sue used her 2 burner propane Coleman for her cooking. And she has a string of Coleman LED lights to go with her Coleman LED lantern. Other than that just another boring BM. ( say that around some nurses )

I have not gotten any new ( to me ) stuff in a while and I am about to loose my mind. Starting to thinking about getting serious about restoring my 1927 L227. Today I put some RUG in my Western Auto Revelation 2 burner. Made by Thermos and it is working right now. Cooked spaghetti on it tonight.

It is running with a generator of some kind. Not the one meant for it or an R55. Needs a new mica globe. straighten up the frame a bit more, polish the fount and figure out why the stud for the vent nut is to short. It may have the wrong burner assembly in it. Will check with the experts on the Coleman forum.

The TV ( 2000 Isuzu Trooper 5 speed ) behaved pretty good but the lack of torque to get going is getting real old. Also 500 miles or less/quart of oil is not nice. ( doesn't smoke or leak ). So been looking for another motor, or rebuilding this one. Salvage places think their used motors are made of gold or something. 150,000 mile motors are still $1000 or more. Most anything under 100,000 is $1,500, at least. Crazy prices. So in September I looked at the KSL TV ( in Salt Lake City about 200 miles from me ) classifieds and I see a 2002 with 93,000 miles on it. About 50 miles from me for $1000. Whole car. I go down and see it. They said the automatic tranny will slip when it gets hot, so they stopped driving it last year and now want it gone or need the money. Or both. It has a lot of cosmetic challenges. The worst is the Right front corner had a truck back into it and wipe out the turn signal and fender. I drive it around town for a bit ( expired plates and all, hey it is Oakley Idaho, no problems ). Engine sounds good and all so I buy it. Can't test drive a motor that has been pulled now can you? Trailer it home and I drive it around a bunch. That auto system on this is something. They call it Torque on Demand. Sort of 2 wheel drive, AWD, and traditional 4x4 modes. I take it out in the fields and drive around like some yahoo. Point it at some good rises and it goes right up. Now not having license or insurance I stick pretty close to home so I can't get it to hot. Dang I like both these things. The first one is in nice shape even for 190,000 miles. But has manual tranny which I like and I think I have a few more years of shifting ability left. what to do, what to do. Well. I did start pulling the motor from the Automatic one Friday. But winter is closing in and I just do not have the get up and go I use to. Who knows how long it will take. Oh, and that 2002 has about every option, heated leather seats, sun roof. Looks like it had been owned by cowboys. Slow will know what I mean. And it had been. One dent was caused by a 4 point mule deer running into the drivers door. They said it tasted real good. The leather seats will probably find their way into the 2000. The leather steering wheel will. Then take the extra air bag and set it off. LOL. Well maybe not. But dang that 2002 drives so nice. Hard to put it down like this.
