I don't think this is what you're looking for but maybe you can get some ideas from the tongue box I built for my teardrop.

Image

It houses my PetCool HVAC unit.
Image

I hinged it on the side so I could mount it close to the trailer and still be able to open it. There is a 120v receptacle there to power the PetCool or use for other purposes. There are also two removable panels to allow air flow to cool the condenser.

Doh! Where were you 4 years ago when I was building mine? That's a great idea....

Hi Tom (& Linda),
The box you built is great!!! I love the wood look and craftsmanship  :applause: .

I have been trying to decide whether to go with wood or aluminum for a tongue cover on my CT Conversion ... the looks of a box, but open on the bottom as I have a tongue plate ... to cover my LP Bottle and battery up front. I like the wood, but have aluminum fenders and trim. I am starting to scrounge some aluminum and will probably go with that.

Again, a fantastic looking box :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause:

Happy holidays and a happy, healthy, prosperous, and SAFE new year to everyone ... :P
Happy Camping & Building,
John (JC)

Yes, there are bolts in each corner of the box to the mount.

I used an old truck toolbox I had in storage and just added dividers inside to manage the organization (two batteries, battery charger, two lawn chairs, two 7 gallon waters and a variety of parts and tools). I already had this one when I built my last trailer but I think I found it on craigslist for $30 originally.

The look was really *off* from the trailer but I already had it and it worked. I was going to mount a first aid kit on one side and fire extinguisher on the other under the 'bed mount' overhang, but I sold the tear so now I'm looking for a tongue box for the CT as well.

Watching the ideas here!

Here is a concept sketch for a tongue box for my CT. It probably will not happen though because of what might be some high costs to build (by a fabrication shop). But if I use some of the techniques used on member fabrication projects of this forum, then just maybe I can build it out of thinner plywood and cover it all in aluminum or something similar. It for sure will be one of my later projects.

The first mod I would implement is not to put my batteries up here as shown. The second one is not to put my AC up front.
Part of my mindset was that if the box was tall, that might help minimize the negative air flow interference as it hits the front of my CT. Of course this is not based on any scientific tests, just my opinion.
Bob

I used a trunk off an antique car. I found it at a flea market for 20 bucks. It was painted with house paint and had childs stickers all over it. They had used it for a toy box.

Ours is made of plywood with painted canvas covering. (like the rest of the tear)
Make it as big as you can, it's nice to have the storage room
Our box holds the battery, propane tank, lantern, poop bucket and seat, bag of sawdust, hatchet, hammer, bow saw, shovel, tarp, spare wheel bearings, leveling blocks and ropes.

Now, THAT, is a work of art!!!!! Makes me embarrassed to be thinking about installing an aluminum prefab box to hold my battery and propane tank...

This is what I ended up with. I had to move the jack which required some mods but in the end it fit perfect. The propane holder fits both the normal grill sized 20 lb tanks and the larger 40lb ones. Its a lot beefier than the side-by-sides I'd looked at installing too. Eventually I'll buy one of the bigger ones but for now I'm just planning on bringing my normal ones from the house to the trailer.

I like that Woodbutcher, it looks like it was meant to be just for your teardrop.
Nice clean up and paint job on it also. :applause: :applause:
