My Soldier/Daughter received her Master's today

Postby daveesl77 » Wed Mar 04, 2015 3:20 pm

Well, it has been a few months since my daughter finished her coursework and was told she had earned her Master's degree. Today she got her diploma. I think she is pretty darned happy. I am so very, very proud of her. Due to her job I never publish her name.

3 years and 11 months ago she left for basic training. 3 years and 4 months ago she left for Korea. 3 years and 2 months ago she started taking courses for her MA through Army Tuition Assistance. 3 years ago she attended Warrior Leadership Course while doing a full graduate course load and graduated on the Commandant's List. 2 years 10 months ago she became the main person doing her job and spent a substantial amount of time working with some pretty high ranking people. Along the way she earned commendations from the Commanding General 2nd ID, CG 8th Army, CG Australia/Pacific, U.N. Representative, the Republic of Korea CG and the Army Chief of Staff. 2 years 1 month ago she was promoted to Sergeant in just about the shortest amount of time allowed by law. 2 years ago she got married in Korea. 16 months ago she arrived at her new posting in the U.S. and was put in charge of her entire group. 5 months ago her enlistment ended and she decided to leave the Regular Army and joined the Reserves. Today she has the paper that shows what she accomplished, essentially on her own, with Honors (again) - 3.85 GPA. She also graduated 1st in her class with her B.A. (double major) and 2nd in her class in high school. She kind of pushes herself.

A bit more insight into dear daughter. She earned her BA dual major in Theater and Broadcasting. Her dream her entire life was to be an actress on Broadway. When she graduated I told her she needed to go live in NYC for at least 2 years, to try to get work. If she didn't do that, she would regret it her entire life. She did, never got a single call back, but she learned a lot. A little over 2 years after the move, she called me up and said she decided to join the military. I was like "what?". She took the entrance test and scored in the 97th percentile, the Army told her she could choose any job she wanted, she chose intelligence. I thought for sure she would choose broadcasting, nope. That is another reason why that Masters is so amazing to me, she did it in something I would have never thought she would have any interest in.

GOOD DAD!!, Some people become brilliant in the military, some in school, while others build TD's. 2 out of three ain't bad.
Enjoy, Chris

Congratulations Dad and a big thanks for her service. Both my brothers were in the Navy. I know you are proud of her. my one brother was in the Air Force and got out for 9 months to get his masters They went back on their promis to make him an Officer so he went to the Navy, They were happy to Make an offer. He retired from the Navy. He would have stayed in if he could have. Give her a Hug from all of us.
