Hey bro sorry to here your news, but at least now that you know what it is, you/they can start sorting it out. It seems that there are a lot of people on this site that are going through (or have been through) same situation and are all coping quite well, and I am sure that you will do the same. Best wishes from Dale and Me and lets see you back on that tear drop build before too long.
I will say cheers with a :coffee: not the one below.
Frank.

I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and did everything the Dr. said. Type 2. My numbers just didn't seem to change....last may my feet looked like reptile man, scaly, dry, peeling. a1c was 11.7 the Drs. nurse practitioner about fainted, I about fainted and she hollered at me. I guess I respond better to women...like getting yelled at by mom. So as we talked I found out I was taking my meds. wrong. Metformin 2 times daily----Took morning pill as I went out the door, got breakfast 15-60 minutes later. Nightime pill took before bed. Wrong. Take DURING the meal. Watching my diet and correcting the pill deal in 3 months a1c was down to 6.8 whew. The best thing we did, my wife and I went to a class at the hospital for cooking for Diabetics....what an eye opener. You will find what makes your numbers jump, mine is potatoes. Oh, and as my numbers came down my feet recovered ok.
They teach you to read the labels and this helps immensely, portion control is key. Dinner plate should be 9in not 12 in.
You can do it.
Good luck and don't despair.

One of the things I have been wondering is how to be social at a gathering when you have dietary restrictions. It is kind of tough to add to a pot luck when you have to cook special and you don't want to hurt anyone's feeling when you tell them you can't eat what they brought.

Or as the wife says 'I'm being too damn sensitive, just relax and enjoy'

I'm not diabetic but I have intolerances to gluten, dairy and a few other things that makes a pot luck a real shot in the dark. I take enough of whatever I am bringing to satisfy me and leave some to share. Others eat it with no problem. It's not like being on a restricted diet makes the food tasteless, although I did feel it was the end of the world when I was faced with having to make choices between eating the same old stuff and feeling ill and feeling great and eating differently. There was a lot of mental attitude adjustment.

Often I'll take what will be mine in a separate container that is kept off the potluck table. I am long past worrying about what others might think. I simply mention there are many things that I can not eat so I bring my own foods to be safe. At this point old friends all are aware. I've never met anyone new who took any offense my picking and choosing.

Once you get regulated and know what affects your sugar readings you can have a "treat". Everything in moderation, but you can cheat once in awhile. I love baked beans, but my sugar explodes......now I know not to take a bowlful, 1 or 2 spoonsful is it. Your on the right path, listen to the dietitian and ask questions. Good Luck, Les

I guess I've got to ask... When are you testing. 2 hours after eating?
and the number you are reporting is not familiar to me. What kind
of testing are you doing?

I'm used to wake up testing at 90-120 and 2 hours after eating is
normally 150-160. My last A1C was 6.2 (3 month reading)

I'm testing generaly 2 hours after eating.
The numbers I'm quoting are my glucometer readings, ideal they should be under 7 but I was diagnosed at 27.5 and havnt got under 13 yet.
My dr ideal wants me stable around 11 for the time being then work on getting g lower after that

Hmm. I know we are in different countries I just didn't expect the
different glucometer readings. My numbers are in milligrams/deciliter.

Hmmm, checking your sugar level postprandial (2 hours after a meal) for a new diabetic is unusual. As a new diabetic seems the approach checking sugar after meals and not before meals is a different approach. Sugars need to be checked prior to meals, recorded into the diary.

I wonder if your monitor is reporting the 24 hour average eAG/A1C represent an average of your glucose levels 24 hours.'

Most diabetics work the the current pre-meal reading glucose of 70 to 130 mg/dL. 2 hours post meal should be below 180mg/dL.

Seems to me there is some form of disconnect of reporting post meal and not before meals.

Well spotted felixx ;) I had seen that too but hadn't commented. I see that you have corrected it now Dale, it pays to proof read before you hit submit. I know I find all sorts of things on my posts too
