Obscene!

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

I was born and raised in a socialist democracy and whilst no systems perfect new Zealand does a pretty good job of it.
Realy the trickle down arguments been argued and lost when it comes to tolerating the obscenely Rich.
There's absolutely no evidence that extreme wealth serves more than them or the very few in thier network.
Moderately rich or upper middle class along with small business are the backbone of every economy.
The term filthy rich wasn't coined by accident, there should be laws against having no morals.. anyway... how's your day been!

These "filthy" rich don't spend any money? To flaunt it they must be spending it somewhere (and employing us little people)
I think you also missed the point about how their money is allowing you to get credit, it isn't stuffed in a mattress.

G'day

Having cross-examined some extremely/obscenely wealthy people [including a gentleman who gambles a billion (no not a typo) dollars a year] I have to concur with Dorothy Parker

"If you want to know what God thinks of money just look at the people he gives it to."

It's a simple question....was it their money? Did they earn it legally? What give us the authority to tell them how to spend it?

Jealousy perhaps?

Do I think it was a wise use of money? No, I don't. But the face is, if they decided they wanted to put that in their fireplaces...what business is it of ours? Really, none. I remember about 25 years ago, I'd look at people who would spend $5,000 (or more....a lot more) for a plywood box on wheels as just as foolish. That was half of a years salary! Crazy people! Yet here I am now.

Some will say, yeah...but it's different! Look at the dollar amount! It's no different. The scale of money is just different...and we haven't attained that level...yet. I'd certainly like too...and I wouldn't stop anyone who could.

It wasn't the item purchased or what my perceived value of it was that prompted me to start this conversation it's more this is just a frivolous expenditure by someone that obviously has vast amounts more and probably a considerable number of employees wondering how they are going to make ends meet this week. ..and probably alot more culled off like some discarded worthless comodity during the GFC
Witch by the way made the super rich even richer.
I have no issue with people doing well from hard work, people with this amount of money make it off the sweat and or misfortune of the rest of us

This "conversation" has the potential to become rather skewed, in my opinion. Anymore provocative or inflammatory comments will ensure that it gets locked.

Just letting you know.

No need for apologies, yet. I appreciate the manner in which this thread has been somewhat restrained in nature. It's just our job to let all involved know that it is being closely monitored. After years of Moderating on this Forum you develop a sixth sense when it comes to picking threads that might go off the rails. This, to me, is one of them.
Pretty simple really, keep it civil and it continues.

The people with more money drive the economy, it has always been this way. I agree with you that the system is tougher for those of us on the average end of the economy. The power brokers set up the tax and business laws that way by design.
The title of your thread and first post point to envy/hatred of those with more than the rest. That is where we disagree. The beauty of the free world is our ability to disagree without bloodshed.

And Paul thanks for the job you do, this site is the best!

I won't get into an argument on what side of the coin I stand but it's pretty ambiguous to assume my motivation was envy or for that matter hatred.
I didn't come close to either. It was what it was and I mearly saying that if you have no consideration moraly or financialy for others then you are open to thier scrutiny and criticism deserved

It was a result of the words and rhetoric you use, just like your last sentence would lead the average reader to assume. I do not know you or your beliefs/motivations, just what you write here.
Either way this is a loaded topic, at least we agree that teardrops are cool.

Time to stop. My choice as I do not need to wait for it to degenerate with someone else butting in.
