Actually, I left my axle under the springs, but I'm running 31 inch tires on 15 inch wheels and wanted to keep the galley counter somewhat reasonable with the cooler on a slide underneath. I think I will still have something close to 18 inches of clearance, IIRC.
The floor could have been higher, if I didn't mind having my feet dangle when sitting in the doorway, or if I were to split the galley counter into a hi/lo configuration, but that would not have worked as nicely with my profile. And for moderate usage I don't think I will need that much ground clearance.
I guess everything is a compromise, trying to keep the height down for on road aero and low CG (for the cross winds), ease of egress, and reasonable galley ergonomics (low enough counter without squashing the under counter space into nothingness).
