widen floor on 4x8 HF Trailer

Postby fcasavant » Fri Aug 14, 2015 11:02 am

Hi...

I have a 4x8 HF HD trailer and I would like an easy way to use a full size mattress so I was considering widening the floor. I was wondering if I could do a subfloor of 2x4 on edge instead of 2x2 and extend floor over the wheels..it seems like it would be enough clearance..just would need long bolts thru 2x4's on edge and thru the frame..any ideas will be appreciated..

Thanks

There are a few options, though pretty much all raise the floor height to maintain adequate tire clearance for bumps. Your idea would work. I've also seen lift blocks added between the springs and the axle with longer u bolts to raise the whole frame up.

You don't really need all of a 2x4 to get the job done. I like the way jseyfert3 did his.

Here's how he attached the wood xmbrs 1st Build, a 5'x8' Foamie Teardrop on a 4'x8' HF Trailer.

And here's later in his build when he completed the frame.
