HF Tongue Ext with Lowered Frame

Postby Wesley25 » Tue Sep 01, 2015 12:21 pm

Hi All, perhaps someone with a bit more experience than me can help me out. I would like to add the tongue extension to my HF 1720lbs Super Duty trailer using the 2 x 2 x 3/16 method that Harvey explained. Here is the background... I have reversed the axel and placed it on the of the leaf spring which lowers the trailer ~3in I have also moved the axel back 4" and reattached it to the frame. (see pic) My question is will I be able to attached the 2" ball couple directly to the end of the 2 x 2 extension or will I need to modify the end of the extension to make up the difference in height? If so how would I go about doing that? Also, if it helps I will attach it to a Ford Escape. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Use a drop hitch.
Or weld a short piece of the tongue tubing on top of the new tongue.
Or both.
