I opened the back hatch on our Honda CRV so I could see the trailer. The added visability made the job easier. Plus, I could hear my wife yelling, "No, the other way!". :-)

 I did that just once with my Jeep when I was backing into the garage to hitch up and I heard screeerunch! :o The Jeep's hatch, when open, is just a fraction of an inch taller than the garage door when the Jeep is on the driveway incline. No harm done; but, I didn't try that again!
