Garden Shed

Postby halfdome, Danny » Mon Sep 14, 2015 4:45 pm

Jane & I spent the last month building this garden shed.
We may have gotten a little carried away, but we're happy with the results.
It's 8' x 8' x 8' tall, between several trees next to the shop.
I bought the 4 stained glass windows 20 years ago for $15 each and finally found a use for them.
I had the Honduras Mahogany, for the raised panels, about 10 years so I ended up buying Sapele (another Mahogany) for the stiles and rails.
Jane ran the flutes on the shaper and the rosettes on the lathe with a rosette cutter.
She also painted the shed.
It matches the house & shop trim I did a few years ago.
I'll be running an underground line for a overhead light soon.

Very nice.
I was going to build a new shop/garage but at my age, I thought different of it. So now, I think I will go for a shed for all the stuff that is making a mess of my regular garage. But I do not think I can come close to your quality work.

Thanks for your comments.
We had a lot of fun building it together.
Now we have a place for all the fertilizers, weed killers, yard tools, and summer seasonal stuff that was always in the way in our garage.
Still need to make some kind of step other than the cinder blocks we're using now.

Thank you.
We figure when we're long gone, someone will use it for an office, kids play house or practice room for an inspiring musician.
Jane sure was eyeing it for a scroll saw shop but now that there's room in the garage she can use it there.

Ron, it's just raw 2"x4" studs, 16" on center and 5 home made trusses all covered in 7/16" OSB sheathing.
The stained glass windows actually look better from the outside with the trim.
They were made for entry doors and were the glass manufacturers seconds, but I can't find any flaws.
Thanks for the kudos TimC.
