Baking with a Sun Oven

Postby Off Grid Rving » Thu Oct 22, 2015 8:41 am

Have you guys ever had a sun oven? man... I love mine!

I use it for baking banana bread because it makes it so moist.

I've done stews and roasting squash and baked potatoes, various breads etc.

you can make them with cardboard box, some aluminum foil and a piece of glass and newspaper for insulation very cheep for a test device to see what you think.

here's vid I made of some banana bread lol

Got one I bought several years ago, in fact it has the name "Sun Oven" on it. I played with it several times trying different meals and it works very well, the only drawback is for maximum cooking efficiency (high heat) you have to rotate it a little about every two hours to get "direct sunlight" reflected into it. I also experimented with setting at about the suns halfway point and letting the food cook longer at a lower temp.......think crock pot......with very good results.

All in all it works well and have retired it to the emergency supply's file for future use. :D
I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction, the world will have a generation of idiot's.

Lots of plans here

I have the Global Sun Oven, too, and have made a home-made CookIt that I use with a home-made greenhouse bowl (it's a clear round pyrex casserole with lid, and I put a slightly smaller stainless steel bowl with the exterior painted black in the casserole, lid on, works very well).

Here's cornbread in the Sun Oven.

I cant recall exactly the plan but i spent 2 days making them for a volunteer organisation in cambodia about 15 years ago.
They were made of recycled pallet wood and tinfoil with glass screens that were recycled to.
It was workshops teaching locals to make them for themselves and they were paid a small fee by the NGO if they made more for donation to others
