Electrical

Postby dpidy9 » Sun Jan 03, 2016 5:10 pm

Hi,

I'm restoring a 1950 19ft alma travel trailer. I want to redue the electrical throughout the trailer and was wondering what gauge wire I should be using?

14 ga seems to be standard except for circuits that might need more i.e. I have one 12 ga for the AC outlet.

Some us probably go too far overboard, but for my battery to my PD4045 controller I ran 4 GA. For my common ground lines I ran 8 GA (to ground strips) and then used 12 GA for 12V and USB sockets. Probably too much. Lighting was 12 and mostly 14 GA depending on the number of lights on it and type (i.e. my outside spots used 12 GA).

Please do take it that I am any expert, but this is what I did. And I typically overdue most all things like this. There are many prior posts and wiring diagrams with sizes on them. Too many for me to list, but you could use the search feature to rummage through them. Lots of good stuff is there.

For a 15A and down circuit, 14 gauge is fine.

For a 30A circuit and this short a run, 12 gauge will do the job.

Is anyone using 50A service in a tiny trailer?
