plunging on another build

Postby Wolfscout » Wed Feb 03, 2016 5:08 pm

I went to a local dealer and took the plunge this morning. I ordered a 8.5 x 20 Patriot Vnose with barn doors.

This time around I'm going Bigger and much nicer than my other ctc, but I'll be keeping it for special things as is.

This one, I'm going with Rooftop Ac, 12V, external mount spare tire, two curb side doors, and a ladder rack by the factory.
Three to four weeks. argh.

I'm planning on a shower/toilet combo with small on demand water heater. - something I didn't have in my first one.

I'm still debating on how I'm going to do windows this time. Definitely not wanting to go the shed window route.

Wife says functional won't cut it this time. I said Yes'm  She said I can use my first one for my hunting/fishing weekends.

I've had many items already bought and sitting in a closet for about a year because a medical problem put everything on hold.

I've got a WFCO 45 amp converter I bought on sale on Amazon. I'm planning on a two battery system with 2500watt converter, adding solar panels in sometime near future.

Also thinking hard on a utility sink with legs (I had an extra small bar sink in the first one). [wife doesn't care much on the sink]

I've already got much of the wiring, receptacles and other old people niceties to improve the camper too. I plan on all lights being 12v LEDs - got them already too.

Just need to find that "just right" water heater.

Yep, Working on that old drawing board......

Sounds like this could be a great project to watch.

Nice! I am anxious to see the progress. I have embarked (second CTC) on the same journey for the same reasons. I bought a bigger CT (18*7 with 2' Vnose). I am selling my 12*7 with 2ft Vnose which was sold to me as a 14*7 Vnose when 14 is from the V to the back. The new one will be 20' from Vnose to back ramp.

This time I am putting in a full shower and toilet with holding tanks, and etc. and a drop down loft Queen Bed. The wife wants to start coming with me and wants the comforts my "man cave" trailer did not have, but I did not miss. :-)

In any case, I should be picking it up in two weeks (custom order). I'll start the build blog then.. Looking forward to following yours.

Cool. I've sometimes pondered how I would do a second build, given what I have learned from the first. A little bigger, adding some of the same amenities you mention. For now, I will watch yours!

Thanks fellas.

Yeah when I built my first CTC with that 6x12, it was used, had that barn shed paint job on it... but I didn't pay much for it. LOL

This time (wife says) I have to build it nicer and creature comfortable more. She says it's becoming more important to have that shower and better toilet facilities.

I could have made do with my functional little trailer... but, the height being so low was really getting to me with my back issues. And, there really wasn't room enough to pass each other when the bed was set up. Not cool ever.

So I figured the 20 with 2 foot Vnose was going to be a giant leap although I did try to convince her since we were looking at a 20 to add 2 or 4 feet for some floor to ceiling cabinets for even more storage. The price and total length difference for us was a huge factor.

I'm still drawing up and redrawing my plans. Not content just yet.

I understand. I went for an extra 18 inches in height, so inside will be 7.5 feet. This will accommodate taller cabinets, but most importantly allow a 3ft. Loft and verical lift bed with room underneath for open living space when my motorcycle is out. Also will allow for a false floor in the bathroom for plumbing, tanks, and etc.
I am 6' , so the headroom will make it feel more open as well.

Are you concerned about what appears to be more weight on driver's side? But then again, with that size trailer, you probably have HD suspension.

That is a good point. One thing to consider is putting your freshwater holding tanks and batteries on the right side somehow. It would be better to have weight distributed more evenly.

I'm not real concerned with what appears to be a balance because of the boat and trailer than I'm going to pull in from the rear and align on the curb side.
There will be some Bicycles and folding furniture gear on the right side. Refrigerator cabinet is also on the curb side. When it's all loaded up to travel, there won't be such a weight distribution issue. That's why I don't think it's going to be one-sided for towing.
BTW I'm not going to be putting in the shower anytime soon. That's for down the road when I've figured out a few more things.

Re: plunging on another build

Friday and Saturday - I got in one of two windows I had ordered. 24x36. I'm all plumbed up on the sink waiting to get it in the camper and hook up the inlet and outlet.
LOL went and got the plumbing needed for the tub.

Before that I built a TV stand out of some recycled wood I had in the barn. Also used some of that wood to build a refrigerator cart and a shelf cabinet. We've decided to use big man cots this go round to hold our foam mattress. That should give us some under bed storage room as well if we need it. ( It's been on the floor the last few trips in our old CTC. at the moment, all of the cabinets that I've built for the CTC have been stained.
We decided on putting a storage closet-like area in the V-nose and using curtain panel's to separate it (for now) from the rest of the camper.
We're going to paint the "bedroom" end of the camper the same gray we painted our bedroom here at home. should make a neat area and add some curtain partitions to separate that area off as well. so it can be fully opened the entire length or closed off.

the pictures below are some that I've managed to assemble prior to the arrival of my new trailer..

Still waiting on the factory to send/deliver the trailer to the dealer. He says it should be here by next week 2/ 8-12/2016. Seems like it's been going on a long time. LOL Oh I added 5 Ladder racks on top to be installed by the factory while they were building it, incase I wanted to add a "sit down area" up there.

Today I spent some time building a frame for the RV 40" tub/shower I'm planning to install. The frame and a section of Plywood with stain and sealer are temporary holders for the plumbing till I figure out what I want to use for the shower surround or buy one of those expensive molded jobs. I've gotten the plumbing fixed to it's fairly simple to take apart and reassemble inside. Pics coming later. That room's a mess right now. LMAO

Also went ahead and got two wall cabinets for the wife's kitchen stained up. Her touches included some "womanly additions" to the cabinets. Pics coming later.

I look forward to the pics. I pick my CT up from the factory in Georgia this weekend. Like you, I have started some prep work. I recovered a lot of the RV appliances, windows, tanks, etc. from a donor RV, so I am refurbishing them in anticipation of the install. I've alo received a few drops at my door from Amazon.

I am anxious to see your shower. I am going with a 30" * 30" shower pan myself for space conservation, but I have to install a full service bathroom for the wife. :-)

I'll be watching for the pics. I've posted a few on my build as well. This is my second CT Conversion also. :applause:

Yes, Amazon must be loving me that last couple weeks since I ordered my trailer.

Here's two images of the tub/shower partially assembled in my 2nd bath now. lol
