Cooker uses almost extinct fuel source.

;) Safari Qwik-Cook

I just bought this at a thrift shop. It is new in the box. I paid $4.00 for it. It runs on balled-up newspaper pages. You crumple up 10 to 12 pages and light the last one on fire. You start cooking right away. The video says that burgers take about 13 minutes to cook completely .

I remember using one as a kid. Now I sort of hate the chemicals in the ink and paper getting on my burgers. But that's just me.

Newspapers have changed over the years. Newsprint is among the least chemically treated papers there is. The printing ink is now and for many years been made out of vegetable and soy oil and the pigment is food colouring with a few additives. Newsprint is basically thin wood.

Burning newspaper creates a fine ash that will get on to the food.

It looks like it's cheaper to buy firewood. A Sunday edition of the New York Times is $6.00.

I bet it will work fine with charcoal, at least for a while... unless it is the good ole thick metal and enamel.

Still, a good deal and useful for slow cooking with that double stack.

Reminds me of Stacie Tamaki's little BBQ grill pan and her tiny glampette style of cooking.

That cooker idea was popular in Africa. A large coffee can or some can similar is made into the stove. Fatty meat is captured between metal screen. Put balled newspaper into the can, light fire and put the meat on top. The fat drips on to the newspaper and burns, cooking itself. :-)

Nice find, I always wanted to try one of those.

I've had one since the early 90's. They work good for hamburgers and hotdogs. Newspapers are almost a thing of the past nowadays though. Mine is out in the garage somewhere. Your hamburger patties need to be thin because you only have about 5 minutes of cooking time

I am thinking that may work good with a small stainless steel colander and a couple hands full of wood pellets. A colander would also work with charcoal.
