PD4045 Question

Postby springdew » Mon Apr 11, 2016 4:32 pm

The planning and prep work for the Waggon is coming right along. I saved so much money on the siding that I'm able to go ahead with electrical, and so here I am.

While I've lost track of all the conversations about connecting the PD4045, I feel pretty comfortable about how it's supposed to go together. But, assuming you use one of the AC breaker slots for the main breaker, and one for the breaker to converter, will it only permit two more breakers? I thought I saw mention of four or five, but I don't recall where. If I can support more individual circuits, it would be better for me than trying to divide my 8x16 footer into only two 120v zones, in addition to changing the lighting and device charging circuits to be supported by 12v.

Thanks, y'all!

You can use double/tandem 115V breakers to supply more circuits. They are essentially double 1/2 size breakers. This will give you atleast 4 circuits and only use up two spaces.
The breaker will look something like this Square D Homeline breaker
140875

Hope this helps

Using the double breakers Martin shows in his post, you can get a Main and seven Branch circuits.

This is really, really helpful. Thanks so much!

For GFCI protection, is it an either/or situation between using a GFCI breaker or GFCI outlet? (Or even a GFCI switch? I think I've seen that somewhere around here.) I remember reading that a GFCI will protect the rest of the circuit downstream of itself and wonder if I can put in a GFCI outlet as the first outlet in the circuit and forego using a special circuit breaker.

Thank you.

Yes, like this.

And this is how you'd wire it.

When I went shopping for breakers, I quickly became confused about the various types. I was going to ask here what kind to use, but then I found the answer. Thought I would post it here for anyone else looking for this info.

Ok here is a diagram of what I'm thinking for electrical layout. On the one hand it looks like overkill how few outlets I'm putting on most of the circuits. On the other hand, almost ANYthing I plug into AC is a high-draw item - electric heater, kettle, toaster oven, microwave. I, for one, am very conscious about how many such things I run at once, but my spouse or others might not be. Then again, I've only got 30 amps to start with, so maybe it's all moot.

I forgot that the converter needs a 15 amp breaker rather than a 20. I've already got the breakers, so maybe I can return the 15/20 for a 15/15 and do it this way.

Please ignore the water pump switch for now. I'm roughing in the switch and wiring, but all the plumbing is going to happen after August. That's also why the fuse is not represented.
