Shore power inlet.

Postby blentz » Sun May 22, 2016 1:50 pm

I bought a nice power inlet from Amazon to install in my Teardrop. So I'm now getting to the point of finishing up the electrical system. I haven't bought a shore power cord yet but thought I would pick up a 30amp to 15amp adapter to run it while I'm finishing up. Well the problem I coming up against is the connector I bought for the Teardrop is a 30A twist lock and everything I find in the local bigbox store is not twist lock. My question what configuration is standard? Is there a NEMA number?

Do a search on 30A twist lock http://www.amazon.com/Foot-Power-Hubbell-Twist-Connector/dp/B008S2K552 and get the adapter.

You can even get the bare twist lock you can wire onto an extention cord.

I had the same problem. I went to a local electrician's shop and they had the female connector that I needed. Wired it to a cord and I was all set.

OK thanks guys. I had bought an outlet from Amazon several months ago and only now discovered it was a twist lock. Now it looks like that is what it should be. I ordered an adapter also a cord that has a twist lock at one end and regular 30A configuration at the other. So I should be OK.
Thanks for the help.

I know it's an old thread ... but in case anyone is building a super simple electrical system and doesn't want/need 30-amp connector ...

The NOCO Genius GCP1 installs in about 5 minutes with a 2-inch hole saw. Only good for 15-amp power, but it eliminates any need for wire splicing or exterior waterproofing.

It's nothing fancy. No real security or twist-lock features or in-use enclosure. It's definitely not a one-size-fits-all solution. But if you want cheap, fast and easy, it's the best I've found. Good luck!

Shucks! I just rigged something up but would have bought that -NOCO Genius GCP1. I didn't know what to google for, I looked all over the web and the rv store sites but didn't see that or anything similar.

I suppose if my thing fails I'll get that.

Thanks for the link though.

Re: Shore power inlet. input/output for simple 15amp cords

Postby working on it » Sun Nov 06, 2016 8:58 am

I wanted my shore-power input/output to be completely shielded from water. Only requires a good outdoor extension cord (or two; input/output). As long as the park power pole side has its' cover, no problems even in pouring rain. http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=61909&hilit=power&start=15#p1108486

30amp twist lock components are common on portable generators like the ones used for construction sites
