KFC's 11 Herbs and Spices

Postby Mike B » Thu Aug 25, 2016 9:48 am

    2 cups white flour
    2/3 Tbsp salt
    1/2 Tbsp thyme
    1/2 Tbsp basil
    1/3 Tbsp oregano
    1 Tbsp celery salt
    1 Tbsp black pepper
    1 Tbsp dried mustard
    4 Tbsp paprika
    2 Tbsp garlic salt
    1 Tbsp ground ginger
    3 Tbsp white pepper

Mix well. This is the coating they use on their fried chicken.

Mike, I am not sure what prompted you to post this, but I for one am glad you did. I love KFC chicken.

The recipe was just "leaked" to a newspaper reporter, supposedly found handwritten in the back of a scrapbook of some old lady related to The Colonel. KFC is of course denying it is the REAL recipe, which they literally keep in a safe encased in concrete surrounded by video surveillance and motion detectors.

Who knows if it's the real deal or not, but it sounds delicious either way.

I've been using a copy cat recipe. I'll have to try this one. Thanks Mike!

I can't remember the last time I ate KFC chicken, until yesterday, and it was delicious! Extra crispy with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were delicious too. I'm going to try this recipe...thank you!

I got this recipe from another blog I read every day. The blog author got it from the Great Internet and he noted the rumour of where the recipe came from. I'm not that big a fan of store-bought fried chicken, but KFC is definitely better than some places out there.

Here's the article that I mentioned yesterday:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyle ... story.html

It claims this recipe was stapled to the back of Colonel Sanders' second wife's last will and testament, found in the scrapbook by their nephew.

I just realized that I have to deep fry them, not bake. I still will try it.

There are all sorts of legends about the Colonel's recipe. I have seen a photo that supposedly showed the recipe written on the wall, next to the fryer at Sanders Court (the one that burned down).

There are tons of secret recipes, books about them, and lists. I just made "un-fried chicken" in my CI skillet - no oil. Simple and very good.

I remember a cartoon years ago showing the Colonel being dragged out by two DEA agents with a caption of "we finally figured out the secret ingredients" but can't find it so...

KFC is always really salty at the local place, so now I go to Bush's Chicken, Not sure where all they are
I made easy quick baked chicken last night

Put a couple of breasts in a bag with a few tablespoons of mayo and pinch of salt/pepper and some Parmesan cheese
Mash up , Add enough breadcrumbs to coat, shake bake
Arrange in greased pan, bake at 350 or so till done ( i think it was 25 minutes or so), good stuff, crunchy on outside, juicy inside
this would work in a dutch oven too I imagine

Last night I was getting things ready to cook my broccoli/cauliflower quiche today, notice I was getting low on the Ms Dash so I grabbed the recipe out of my book, checking if I need add anything to the shopping list. Wow all you need to add is a 1/3 cup of onion powder to the Col's recipe and you are on your way to making it.
