Wiring help

Postby vitya-velik » Mon Sep 19, 2016 8:58 pm

I have hooked up 2 led lights and a fan to the 12v battery through the circuit breaker and ground block. However I can't get them to work. Am I doing something wrong? ImageImage

The first thing I would try is connecting each item to the battery direct. Then add the ground block back in while still hooking an item directly to the battery. Then add the breaker back.

Some LED's are polarity sensitive.... will not light if hooked up incorrectly, usually the longer lead is positive.

I had black and red wires coming out of the LED lamp so I connected them to the black and red wires coming from the ground and fuse block.

Good that's step one!
Now as already stated remove everything, test each item- directly with the battery. Then start reassembly.
Good luck

Only problem with picture is does not show us anything other you have a battery and some wire and a fuse block and ground block picture is not up close and personal enough to see details....... And I have to wonder if you have ground block wired correctly from what I can see.... Does construction of ground block have one side where wire from battery is connected serve all the ground positions... I know fuse block is "one supply" serves all fuses (because I recognize its design) , but can not see details of ground block...

Also there is a terminology thing here, what you are referring to as circuit breaker is actual called a "fuse panel" or "fuse block" ... But actually serve same function...

So I found out that I was hooking it up the wrong way at the ground block. I thought it was just one big metal plate but it's 8 individual ones so does that mean I have to hook up a wire from the battery everytime I hook up another light? Image Image

The close up pic is the correct way.

Glad you got it figured out. Your " correct " pic is really the only one that is detailed enough for me to see what I'm looking at. I only have a cell phone.

For grounds, just strap all one side common with loops from one terminal to another or run down to local big box store and get a "ground strip"....

Personally I would just strap the one you have...

I did as Dale suggested and bought the Ground strip, it made running all my grounds to a common point as easy as you can get. A single wire from the negative side of the battery to the ground strip and it was done.

Hard to see but input is at the top and I had to daisy chain the feeds.
output is at the bottom and the ground strap is a respectable distance away.
Growing older but not up !
