Torsion Axle question

Postby bam1028 » Tue Oct 11, 2016 8:40 pm

I have built a 6x10 on a 4x8 frame. I am wondering how to choose a starting angle on a torsion axle with the deck riding over the tire. There is plenty of room now for the axle and 12" rims/tires to have full range of motion without hitting the bottom floor. The height of the trailer frame to the ground is 17".. Is this possible to install a torsion axle with current set up I have. Thanks

Flexiride torsion axles have adjustable angle spindle arms. The fitment is splined and adjustable.

This thread may help you decide on a start angle for the ride height that you want:

The http://www.ucfamerica.com website seems no longer to work. But as I recall, you still must choose a start angle because the adjustment is limited.

I started (and ended up) at the standard 22.5 downward angle on my Flexride torsion axle. On my 750lb. trailer with a 1400 pound torsion axle it gave me the best compromise between dampening and ride height/clearance.

If you're wondering how I got a 1400 lb axle, when I ordered my Flexride they offered and I requested they de-tune a 2000 lb axle to 1400 lbs. by removing 2 of the 4 interior bands.

Ignoring possible clearance and ride height issues, the more weight you need to support the larger the down angle should be but at the expense of possible ride comfort/smoothness. The less the downward angle the more dampening/smoothness you'll get.

Hope this helps.

I have read and read the sticky on how to choose a torsion axle. I believe my issue is solving the amount of distance between the top of the tire and the overhang of the floor. I thank everyone for their responses. I believe I may have to call Dexter and get their opinion of my situation.
