Trailer Size

Postby dakippen » Mon Jan 23, 2017 6:46 pm

I think I know the answer to this already, but would an 8x8 snowmobile trailer be too big and overkill? My tow vehicle is a 2 dr Jeep Wrangler. IF I use this, I do know I have to watch the weight.

Thanks!

Whats the incentive to buy this trailer? Will you actually fill it with snowmobiles?

The incentive is that it's free...it does need new bearings and new welds.

Are you thinking of building an 8'-wide teardrop? :o

Not sure, but that is really big isn't it?

Snowmobile trailers usually sit over the wheels. So the axle may be narrower. Maybe easy to narrow "deck"?

A teardrop is more-or-less a bed on wheels with an open kitchen in the back. Can't imagine hauling a bed that's 8' wide to go camping.

I started out in 2004 with a 4-wide. It beat a tent by a mile but was a bit tight. I think our five-wide with it's queen-sized bed is perfect.

With 8ft wide walls its hard to see around driving or backing up. A lot of campsites i go to are pretty tight. Also a lot of wind resistance. Trailers that are a lot wider than your tv take a lot more concentration or practise to keep in your lane on the highway.

And I was right about my own thoughts - a trailer this big is not a good idea. Thank you!
