DIY Camping Table

Postby Tomterrific » Tue Mar 01, 2016 11:47 am

Every time my kids went to a soccer game I saw those cheap bag chairs in the trash. What a waste of a good folding mechanism I thought. I've been wishing for a small folding table for camping so I finally made a table top to fit a folding bag chair frame. The pictures should give enough info to build if you like the idea.

Hey, that's not a bad idea, and the table top could double as a platform to stand on when taking an out door shower. You know, to keep your feet out of the muck. Some may think that's a little gross, to use it as a table afterwards, but I figure if it just had a shower it probably got washed better than most people might wash their table so, fair game. :D

Actually, a shower mat/floor is a good double purpose. Just the right size.

Another cool shower mat idea is to use two lengths of nylon webbing screwed to the back of cut to lenght 1x boards. The mat can be rolled up when not used and just unrolled quickly when the shower is set up. I suggest 1/2" no.8 screws with finish washers through the nylon webbing to attach to board. I'm thinking this type of mat would make a nice floor for the 3x4 foot changing area under my hatch. A kind of wooden carpet.

Hey, that's a slick idea!

What about using some of that fancy recycled plastic lumber for the top? No more worries about what got spilled on the camping table.

What a cool idea. Nice to see something recycled instead of going into a land fill. I have plans for a picnic table made from 1 sheet of 3/4 plywood. It would be great for 2 adults or 4 kids. When I find the plans I'll post them.

Good idea...

I usually see them smashed at those plastic union/hinge bits though, which is why they get pitched. I guess if you find two you can swap bits around.

Trying to think of other stuff you could do, like a pull out canvas trolley top with a bunch of them, or parts of them...

Art Mini,

I've seen plans like that too, think they were in one of the Popular Mechanics Douglas Fir Plywood Association contest issues... probably dig it up on google books.

That's a good idea. I have some composite flooring left from a front porch rebuild. Time to use some of it. 8)
