Trimming a woodie.

Postby edgeau » Sun Aug 13, 2017 5:24 am

I am not doing an aluminum skin. I have now successfully got a nice looking roof on but l am looking for ideas to hide the ply edge with some sort of trim. What have others done?

I cut some poplar to 1/4" x 2 1/2 inch strip, then screwed it on with brass screws and washers, leaving 1/4" overhang for a drip edge. epoxy and varnish over it.

like you, I had to cover the edges of the roof plywood. I ripped thin pieces of birch and glued it to the sides. Then routed and sanded the edges flush with the roof surface before finishing. Has held up well so far (3 years) but does get a few fresh coats of poly every year.

Anyone have build threads on these? I am looking to build one of these woodie versions with the vintage look to it.

Nice. Did you curve the bottom edge with a jigsaw first?

Actually when I zoom in I see better that it isn't curved like I imagined. Looks good. Well done

I used aluminum edging I bought from vintage technologies.
