MadMango wrote:I've been very happy with my Champion 2kw inverter generator. Used it extensively during Hurricane Irma here in FL. I ran a full size fridge, 5ft chest freezer, and box fan for 12hrs on one gallon of gas. The best feature is that it is half the cost of a Honda of comparable performance. I actually purchased mine from another site besides Amazon for $450. Plan is to keep one in my squareback and purchase another for home, so when I need to I can run them in parallel.

I was on the verge of buying the 2k from Harbor Freight, which is on sale now for $429. If you can find one. These are apparently very highly rated. The store manager told me to stay away from their 800W 2-stroke, said its very noisy. He said they can't keep the 2k's on the shelf.

A Champion for the same dough is pretty compelling, though. I have the 7.5kw dual-fuel for the house (way overkill as the house takes about 3500w when everything is on, including the furnace and the well pump).

In the end I decided being under 20 pounds versus 50 was more important for my teardrop purpose than the extra power.

Yeah, I have a 2kw wen generator already, but it's seriously overkill for my td.

I also have that same little heater and I freaking LOVE it.

I'm going to wait till I see this one on their site, then I think I'll nab it.
My build, 5x8 modified benroy "Smiles to go". Started April 2nd 2015, first trip August 2nd 2015.

I, as well have been watching the ryobi. I remember seeing somewhere it was listed for $599.
Althogh clean........it's too expensive for my budget.
I researched the sportsman inverter generator and after 2 weeks of watching reviews on yootoob i found a good price on one and ordered it.
Target of all places had it cheaper than everyone.

Let us know how the Sportsman works out.

Review claims quieter than Honda.

Don't see a dB spec?

I just placed my order !!

I have no idea whether I need it at this time, seeing as how my 4-stroke 1kw generator seems pretty good when running it here (not actual camping just in the driveway). And gasoline may be better for cold weather, to boot.

But this is too freaking cool to pass up, so I got it.

Delivery to my store by 12/7. Hope that's not, like, an omen or anything.

Still lookin' good, HD says it will be ready for local store pickup next Tuesday.

BTW, I used my Sportsman 4-stroke to power by compressor yesterday when winterizing the "big" trailer, worked like a champ and just purred away, completely drowned out by the compressor (the smallest/cheapest pancake model from HFT).

I then took it over to the TD to recharge the battery, which had been sitting since August. Topped off in about 10 minutes, while also running the 350w wall-plug-in heater.

In about an hour of runtime I think she drank maybe 1/2 cup of gasoline.

Interestingly enough, I use a little 900w 2 cycle generator which sits in the outhouse outside when i'm at the hunting camp visiting my parents. it keeps the outhouse nice and warm just with the heat generated by the engine. the exhaust gets piped outside.

You could probably rig something like that and just blow the heat from your genny inside your trailer and keep things cozy if you do it right. of course, night time may be an issue (noise)

Hope that's not an expensive deep-cycle, if so needs a little trickle solar panel, or much more frequent overnights on shore power.

That is, if you care about longevity.
