Hi I'm a newbie from Socal looking to build a teardrop. Thank you for accepting me. I just picked up a used carry on trailer to start my build.Image

I'm in the process of getting my utility trailer registered in California and i just found out that utility trailer registration vs camper trailer is totally different in price. Just curious those who registered as a trailer and then built their TD on top of they had to re-register their TD?

Thanks Bill but I started that thread after I didn't get a response here. I appreciate the effort though!

Sorry, I was on an afternoon break from jury duty and couldn't see everything on the iphone. Hope the reg thing works out, should not be any issues.

I threw a sheet of plywood down onto my Harbor Freight trailer, took it to the DMV got it registered, no sweat. Now my teardrop sits proudly upon it as it has for the past 15 years. Calif registration was a piece of cake, I'm puzzled.

Finally got the trailer painted. It took forever to grind off the little nubs left after cutting off the welded mesh. If anyone decides to build a teardrop, don't use a Lowe's carry on trailer. Go with a HF or NT. Image

Got the torsion box completed. This definitely removed all the flex that was present before. I lap jointed the 8ft 2x4 to the front and the back and pocket holed the middle all glued with gorilla glue and PL premium to the base. I decided not to insulate the base because I'm not looking to camp in freezing temps. Two coats of roofing sealer and 3\8 stainless steel bolts to the frame should insure long lasting protection from underneath. Now the fun begins!ImageImageImageImageImage
