Hitch Hotel

Here's where you can talk to the manufacturers about custom built trailers, etc...

Hitch Hotel

I was looking again at "30 Seconds to Camp" on youtube, and I came across another similar camper that has no wheels. The thing with wheels is that here in Kansas, they tax the crap out of people on campers, personal property tax. Kind of interesting as with this one, it is "secure", well, as "secure" as could be expected in today's world: http://www.hitchhotel.com/ With my dreams of full-timing in a teardrop on hold, this looks like something that could be fun!

I think it could 'expand' some peoples camping experience.

Why not just pull a small foamy, license as a utility trailer? It would weight less, have a flat floor. not leak on all those seams and not have the set up time(bed would not have to be made and un-made).

Why I'm thinking of a small VanDweller setup....a simple car camping setup.

2011-2014 Honda Odyssey, which I can add a trailer later once I find something I like.

I built mine here in Kansas and it's under 2200# no tag required. As far as property tax it's not tagged and it's not a permanent structure so I don't claim it.

Vehicles and trailers are taxed as personal property in Kansas, not as a "structure".

That will put a lot more stress on the car than towing a teardrop will.

I said it's NOT a structure but if it isn't tagged it is not registered so no record of it as a vehicle or trailer. I've had mine for 3 years now and never been questioned about it. I've pulled it to several different states and no questions asked, so if it's under 2200# I wouldn't worry about it.

It is taxed as personal property, not real property. We get a "survey" each year as to the personal property we have. Wheels under it requires registration, but with the lower weight, it does not need to be tagged. Our pop-up was under 2,000, no tag but personal property tax! A tent is the best choice in KS.

Wow, it is so interesting how all the different states deal with taxes and registration. I'm in Washington - no state income tax, but my sales tax is over 8%. "Property" tax on my single wide is $100/year, and my car is only $65/year.
