2+2+1 ish

Postby Jordan87 » Tue Apr 17, 2018 7:50 pm

Well after waiting for the right buy, I've finally purchased an old pop up frame (6x12 ish). I will be attempting to build a version of the 2+2 for a family of 5! Luckily it's my wife and I plus our 9, 4, and 1 year old. I've been lurking for awhile reading posts and trying to get my plan together. It seems like the plan needs to be made now haha!

Congratulations! Planning is the fun part too. What size aiming for? Gutting the frame? Little things like doors, bathroom, shower, hard sides, water, sink, indoor outdoor? And as always Pics!

I'm taking it down to the frame and building up as I go. I'm really wanting to stay as true to the Andrew design as possible as I really like the look and size. I plan to build the door myself. And keep the port windows though I may try to make them as well. I work at a sign company and have access to a lot of resources such as cnc routers and a water jet.

Some progress! Torn down, primed, and rubberized paint on the frame which was in pretty good condition! Only down side is it is smaller by 2 feet then I had been told or planned for. Well back to the drafting board! ImageImageImage

Does any one know a good thread on diy door construction?

Also thinking about doing my own acrylic windows. Any ideas or advice on that would be appreciated.

I bought my windows but built my doors.. Not sure how you're visualizing yours aesthetically but this is how I did mine.. Haven't ever had a problem with water getting in even after highway driving through a few CRAZY scary torrential storms..

I really like the profile you picked. The size is great too. 8)

It's big for a tear, but still has great proportions and lines to it. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks. I agree. Its basically the 2+2 but raised up just a bit in the back for more headroom and storage
