Do what I do when ever I start thinking about farming again. I get a 2x4 and hit myself over the head until the thought leaves.

Heading out in a few minutes to check it out.

How did it go? Are you thinking of base camping at where the trailer once was?

I got out there. Finally posting about it. Road at that time was good, dry, not very dusty ( Yet ). To get to the Crystal Ice Caves take Idaho Highway 39 between American Falls and Aberdeen to North Pleasant Valley Road. It is just north of Mile Post 8. Turn west on it, go about 8 or so miles on pavement. You will come to a stop sign where Quigley Road Crosses it. Continue West for about 2 miles and turn right, North. Excellent gravel road for about 5-7 miles or there abouts. At the cattle guard road gets interesting. About 5 miles of rough, rutted road but not as bad as last year. Rob's Subaru can make it just be careful. You will come to this sign.

Image

Keep to the road on the left. Toward the trees you can see for the past few miles. It is another .3 miles to the parking area.

There are some fire rings there already. Bring some fire wood if you wish. A garden sprayer with water for fire control is good also.

I plan to camp there. Have some reading material, a recliner and beer. 8)

Google Maps knows it, Type in Crystal Ice Caves Idaho and bingo.

Hard to get lost just stay on the well used road.

See you there.

Looking forward to it, My teardrop will likely be a bit primitive yet but as long as the doors (exist and) latch I'll be there!

Sounds good. I might have someone coming in with a motor home (converted bus). He was asking if I though he could get it in there. I think he should be good as long as it does not get too wet between now and then.

You can tent/tarp it if you wish, I do not care. I do have a tent you can use if that helps.

Randy, are you planning any day outings or just camping?

I will probably do some side trips but not many. If I feel up to it I might try to hike up to Pillar Butte. I would like to see that one more time before I croak. But mostly stay near the Kings Bowl/Crystal Ice Cave area. Might go out of the Monument boundary for some target shooting.

Or not.

Randy.

To wet to go out there for a few days. Pretty good rain around here the past few days and might get more. Keep the desert greener and dust a bit less even if it doesn't rain more.

If it something happens and we need to use a "Plan B" I suggest we have a campout at the Pipeline Camp Ground. It is south of American Falls on the Snake River. Take the Neely exit and go north to ward American Falls. It is 2.5 miles ( or 2 can't remember for sure ) There is a little easy to miss sign. Turn toward the river on a gravel road. Some sights will be hard to get to if weather is wet but we need some adventure. Pit toilet has been clean when ever I have stopped. And it is FREE.

Right on the river, with a boat ramp and docks. As long as the natural gas pipeline does not spring a leak.

Appreciate the offer, I'll have all my tenting stuff with me just in case, should probably get a tarp big enough to cover the TD in case of leaks. Canvas is going on this weekend, starting doors and paint will be layer by layer so 3 weeks should get me good enough for a test drive.

Cool, looking forward to meeting you and seeing your canvasing job. ( stealing your methods in other words )

I may just tent anyway. I tented one week end last september in my 2 man tent. A bit tight for older joints. Bought a 3 man tent so might be easier. Have air mattress so not roughing it to much.

Just over two weeks. Come on out to Mordor and see cracks in the earth, for real, close up. And will not burn your face off. I hope but that would be fun also.
