I made it around the corner now. These front corners are the complicated part. I can now see the compound radius that I will need to fill with foam and skin inside and out with plywood. I have done all the math for the pieces and feel pretty confident that it will work out as I have envisioned it.

I found a piece of 1" foam that was the exact width I needed to fill this small gap so I had to test fit it. Not sure yet what adhesive I am going to use between the wood and the foam. Any suggestions???

I used some pieces of wood on the floor to test out the size of the bathroom. The ladder is the toilet and the space toward the front will be the shower. I am thinking that the angled door I had planned is not going to work out. It will be a little cramped by the toilet. I am happy with the shower though. I was concerned that the radius on the ceiling was going to be a problem, but it is ok. It certainly isn't roomy, but there is ample space to get the job done.

Hey DaddyJeep. For foam to wood I would suggest PL Premium glue(BUT NOT A FAST GRAB TYPE). I tried TB2, Epoxy and I like PLP the best due to 1.good working time and 2.budget.
Are you skinning w. ply from both outside and inside? If one side only then I would consider plywood on outside only due to less fairing work required vs. foam if you are going to do fairing of course. I'll be following your build. Thanks for sharing your experience here.

I was thinking the pl would be the way to go from what I have learned here. I am skinning with 1/8" birch plywood inside and out. Thanks for checking in OP.

One inch foam and 1/8 baltic birch plywood sandwich glued with PLP will be a VERY strong structure. I did a dinette table that way in my build and then entry door and I am not a small guy and I can jump on them, they would not flex. PLP inside does add more rigidity, but also weight, so I'd watch the glue amount as PLP is not light. I used a small notch trowel to apply PLP on plywood. One more point to note: PLP will dry to touch pretty fast in warm and humid weather, so if I glue big panels I'd do it in the cool morning or evening then. PLP can be applied during cold and dry weather, just takes longer to cure. PLP will usually expand due to moisture in the air and glue, so proper clamping by screws of otherwise to avoid distortion is indicated. OK, enough for this long post, but hopefully it helps..

This is my first time with a lot of this stuff so I welcome any advice. I am not concerned about weight at all. In fact, I changed up my design to add weight. The Jeep can sit further back on the trailer if I can add more weight in the front. I will be towing with a one ton truck.

I finished framing the main cabin.

I need to address some mounting points for cabinets and maybe even up some of the horizontal supports to line up with the plywood edges. I am trying to plan my plywood seams so they do not end up at the edge of a radius so the seams blend together better.

Then I will move on to framing the slide out.

I suppose it is not illustrated real well, but you can see how the slide out overlaps the Jeep. In the overhead view the darker brown floor color is the slide out section and in the side view the James Bond looking guy is in the slide out. The bed (blue) will be built on a cantilevered base secured to the slide out. When closed up the bed will come right up against the kitchen counter and still leave the bathroom accessible. I wanted to be sure the camper was mostly functional while in the closed position so I could sleep while towing the Jeep on long trips. You can also see in the side view that the slide out stops a little before the rear of the side walls. I want to maintain a 6" overlap there to protect the seam from the weather.

I got it now, this is a cool idea. I wonder what a good weather seal design of such slideout should be..

There is going to be a lip on both ends of the slide out and one mounted to the main camper body. This type of seal will be on both sides. I have ideas for a cam locking system to compress the seals in either orientation.

Here is a quick illustration of how that seal would work. The blue wall being the fixed wall of the main structure and the red being the inner and outer lips of the slide out. The cam lock would push the red lip up against the blue lip compressing the seal. Clear as mud, right?

Yes, the seal design makes sense. It will be continuous with a little arch on the top to shed water and radii in corners, correct?

DWT77, that thing looks like the swiss army knife of trailers.

I framed up the slide out last night. We will see if I can get the back wall done tonight.

Here it is at it's full open length. She is a big girl.
