Drywall, Drywall, Drywall. Up and down , up and down. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. It is all most done. However these pooch outs were and remain a pain in the butt.

I decided that if I wanted some meat behind the drywall to inset plywood with nailers set back enough to allow for the extra thickness. The cavities were filled with paper backed roll insulation before they were closed up.

Rescued a small station cart from a friends scrap steel pile ( for free ).... This is the best picture I could find on the net. It is just like this one but the wood on my new find is gone... gone...gone. I will need a gallon of penetrating oil and about 28 feet of 2x10 or such for a new top to get it back in shape.

Well it was above 50 and a great day to work so I put in 3 hours and got the 45 degree walls at the side door all sheathed with the car siding. I applied it horizontally and left the flat face of the back side of the vee groove 1909 car siding exposed. This is the unfinished side of the 100 year old wood and looks so sweet. I promise I will get the camera out tomorrow and get a few pictures. I installed some squirrel blocking fillers above the end gables. They are starting to try and move in and I don't need squatters in the attic. Going to get my help Saturday morning and we will get the facia completed and the rest of the critter blocking installed weather permitting. If it rains we will move inside and work on drywall finish and the troughs for the indirect lighting. :pictures:

Update: Here is the car siding installed.....Image

Still needs trimmed out but I loved the look !

I have to relocate it by just a few feet. There is a small touch of dry wall that should be done today. Then on to mudding and painting and getting the wood stove either installed inside or create the out building to hold it. I still need to install all of the solar electric and hot air collectors and the solar hot water unit. There are water circulation pumps and water delivery pumps and the air tubes to build and insulate that will deliver and return hot air to the caboose from the depot. I think I will be able to sleep out there in milder weather now, but realistically it will be mid to late spring before the compound will function as I want it to. I am still working 48 miles away 3 days a week so the House in a house is still considered home during the week as the 16 mile drive is so much shorter from there to work. My project weekends are somewhat abbreviated as my knees all but refuse ladder work so if I get in a 4 hour day while climbing that is fantastic but the agony the next day all but eliminates any wish to work. I piddle on smaller projects that do not require as much standing ,walking ,and climbing. It will be ready by the time I fully retire. I am using the part-time money to help with the larger ticket items like wood stove chimneys and the solar equipment and an LP heater unit. I am enjoying the build, some folks golf, some play tennis, I just love cutting sawing and fitting wood together to create.

The last of the drywall is installed. I left two trusses fully intact and they needed to be faced both sides. I had to install all kinds of fillers and nailers to get everything to plane out so it was a mess. It is raining snowing and sleeting this morning (Mon.) and the wind is about 40 MPH. My right knee is as big as my head. I stumbled yesterday on a loose step and caught myself mid fall with my right leg. I am starting to wish I had just fell.. I am determined to get some pictures taken today and am still in hopes of getting the light troughs installed.

(Maybe  )

The plywood ceiling is now fully installed but some dumb butt forgot to reroute the can light wiring. I am in hopes I do not have to remove any of the ceiling as it is now trapped under the drywall edges. If I find someone with long skinny arms we might retrieve it thru the holes for the can light install. I so hate when the inner sheathing is all installed it is so damn final. Any electrical or plumbing ideas are in the past unless you are ready to destroy and replace the inner sheathing. Well back to the grind tomorrow for 3 whole days. Then another 4 day weekend to piddle with the depot ! :D

Update: Left and right trusses faced out ready for trim. Image

Well the Dumpsters were good to me this weekend.......

A demolition site roll off netted 15 pieces of EMT tubing with a dozen or so outlet quad boxed with outlets and switches. It also had about five 10-12 foot length of pvc from 1 1/4 to 3 inch in diameter.

Along the road side a patio chair and a nice wood 1/2 lite door

and in a new dumpster was a very nice Sealy Posterpedic full mattress still in the zip on cover.

The mattress fits perfectly on the sleeping shelf in the depot.

Doing my Christmas shopping at the side of the road this year.

That was a good deal-- and big enough to heat a lot of sq feet. I used a 25K btu wall furnace to heat an 872 sf house I built in Illinois for a couple years until I had the money for a REAL furnace.

Well Craigslist tempted me...... I found a 20,000 BTU ventless gas heater for $40.00. With the weather being far less friendly I decided a small heater in the depot might be a good thing so I went looking and I found myself a nice heater. It was still in the box and had never been installed. I need to make a quick trip to the plumbing shop for some pipe and a shut off and it is in there so I can have heat to finish the drywall and decorating. Gonna have to add it to the build cost bringing me up to $3310.50 :D .
