Just popped in to see whats going on and saw your post. I always look forward to your builds. I learned enough from you and all the other "experts" here to build and sell my first teardrop and I am also in the planning stages to build # 2. So your timing is perfect !!

Have you looked into Raptor Liner ? I may coat this one in Raptor but depending on how your Monstaliner turns out i may go that way.

Keep the pics coming

DC:

I like the texture of Monstaliner better than Raptor. But I've only seen Raptor sprayed on.

Thanks for stopping in.

Hmm, I might have to steal that idea.

I Stole the idea from Inca Outdoors before they went bankrupt (supposedly holding lots of downpayments). That's a Thule platform rack that's been cut and welded.

I got the door cores cut out of the skeletons today.

Image

I had two guide bushings go south during this endeavor:

Image

The first one was the result of not using my centering cone to ensure the base was perfectly centered. The second one was a Bosch brand bushing. They are spot welded together and it came apart. According to the reviews on Amazon, other's have had the same problem.

I finally got a set of Porter Cable bushings and they worked great. Just a matter of waiting for the guy in the big brown truck to hand them to me.

Both bushing failures damaged the template, door core, and skeleton edge. But it was a quick fix with super glue, sawdust, and a sanding block.

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the bushings Tony. Since you didn't mention it, I suppose the router bit is okay?

I bought a Bosch bushing set (except they call it a "template guide set", is there a difference?) but haven't used them yet. I've seen the negative reviews vs the positive ones about Porter Cable's set. Guess they fit in a Bosch base with that template guide adapter?

BTW, just a random thought, but if you ever think about writing a book on teardrop building, a chapter on mistakes and how to fix them would be helpful. I would be glad to help with a list of the former!

The do. I think the Bosch guides might be fine except for the 1/4" one since it has so little surface for the so-called weld. (I hope my chassis welds have some depth to them, unlike their router guides.)

but if you ever think about writing a book on teardrop building, a chapter on mistakes...

I'm thinking three chapters.

I got a fair amount of progress done today. I managed to get the interior skin and foam installed on the right wall. I was very fortunate to find 3/4" foam board locally. That was a big deal.

When I grow up, I want to be a wood craftsman like you Tony. Per usual, nice work.

Oh, and for those mistakes, there's always the trusty Raman Noodle trick!

Thanks. (And you, KC need to get cranking and go camping.)

I have not heard from Wolfarmer other than his trip to Utah.

Let me know if you want to interview me for one of those three chapters of the book.

Great progress on #4. I took a few weeks off on all things teardrops after the big push for the Utah trip. Since we have done three weekend trips. Just got back from a 3 day trip to CA.

Now that we have some time in using the teardrop I have things to finish and a few little changes.

Nice! Do you put a coat of epoxy on the wood first before laying the glass?
