Don, what is your total Battery capacity? Do you need more for all the extra
solar you are harvesting? Just being curious as a lot of folks don't think about
that end of the project.

hank
Hi Hank. I have 450aH of which 225aH is available. 900w will not help storage capacity as you know, but will help with battery usage when running appliances during time when sunlight is available.

With the Airconditioner and Fridge running 100% the batteries should stay 100% most all day and have 225aH for overnight, so the main reason to add extra 400W is to run Airconditioner during day 100% off solar. Other benefits as well with hot water heater, etc..

Additionally, in theory, battery recovery should be better with more available power to charge when needed.

I am looking forward to you going on your long cross country trip so you can live test your electrical system and then record and share with us all the good performance data you harvest.

I added a meter to monitor the Inverter output. The #'s shown (824W and etc.) are running the AC and Fridge. It has all the necessary details to include Frequency and Power Factor. The Watt Hours (Wh) show the accumulated power use since power on. Along with the Victron, I will be able to monitor battery status and Inverter Output all in one place at the same time. In any case, I have to cut another face plate and replace this one as I dented/scratched up this one with vice grips I was holding it with while cutting opening. Wish I had better tools for for that type of work. :-)

To change the subject a bit, I received this for my birthday the other day from my wife. I think she likes me (or at least understands me... LOL) . A 100mhz Dual Channel Digital Storage Oscilloscope. Will help me troubleshoot electronics on my home bench much better. So many things I will be able to use this for to build or fix electronics with (besides my tinkering with HAM radios and etc.) . If the inverter or solar controller ever fails for instance.. will be able to troubleshoot and repair. Most components (FETS, Caps, etc) for them are very common. Hardest part sometimes is finding a good schematic.

I finally added a permanent step before I hurt myself. Should have did this a long time ago. It is the perfect height with the axle flip. It sticks down 3 inches from the frame. The step should not be in the way at all and is perfectly at half the step distance from level ground to the floor of the trailer when deployed.

BTW.. fixed that rear tire. Had a drywall screw in it. :-(

flboy, Howdy;

Don, from my own experience I find the use of a rubber (heavy duty), bungee keeps
the step from self-deploying while you are traveling.

Hi Hank. Hope all is well with you.

Yes, I have heard of that happening.. but usually because they were not retracted all the way into the drop slot.

Just to be sure, I am going to drill a hole and have a pin that dangles on a chain. I will put the pin in for travel. Just by putting in the pin for travel will ensure it is retracted properly.

Hey Don,
Love the step. Gotta source link? I'd better get that done before I end up on the I/R list. I don't seem to be gettin' any younger.

Hi McDave. Here it is. If you have a straight axle or drop axle moved underneath the leaf springs as I do, should have good clearance. I wouldn't use this with standard drop axle configuration. Just not enough clearance for anything underneath unless you only stay on pavement.

Have you seen the new style that fold up inside of door? Expensive. But nice option for some.

I like the fixed ones except for price tag. I was thinking about making a set that just hinged up in front of door on the outside or were removable. Not as sleek but should be just study. And alot less than $500.

Hey, Don-

We went with a step just like yours, (I think). That thing is the greatest! Love not having to haul our old portable step, and this one is so much safer and more stable. It works great for the dogs, too. Our little dog never really trusted the portable one, (can't say I blame her!).
This is gracious living! 8)

I hadn't until church family member got a new trailer. It's nice even has "ground effect" lights underneath. Funny thing, they started camping with their motorcycle and a a tent camper. Sold both, got a small TT single axle maybe 16'? Now they have a 26' or 28'
