So I tried restricting the A/C cold air output vents. I cut down the test plenum so that the output opening is 3" tall by 2" wide. I cut it down that much for another reason. When I push the A/C unit in to stow it there is only 2" of room in front of it. I had hoped that I could permanently attach the duct to the A/C. I did not want something I had to store separately and then attach at setup time.

So far the restricted plenum seems to work. I was able to get the sleeper cabin down to 70 degrees and 48% humidity. With the large plenum I could not get humidity below 64%. The compressor now runs considerably longer. The unit seems to cycle much closer to normal. I'm going to continue testing it tomorrow and leave it run most of the day. I want to make sure it doesn't ice up or do other weird stuff.

If it works out well I'll build something sturdy and attach it to the A/C unit for good.

Cool...literally :D
I really like your idea of putting the air conditioner on a drawer slide that pulls out through the cargo door. Nice looking build overall. :applause:

Today is the Day!! I can finally say my teardrop is road worthy and camp ready!!! I've read enough here to know better than to say it's finished. A few tweaks and adjustments remain to be done. However nothing that prevents me from using it.

4 years and 8 months after starting this build thread the time is finally here. To be fair there were close 30 months scattered in that time where it sat dormant with no work being done for a variety of reasons.

So now it's time to vacuum it out, Dust off all the construction dust and install the mattress, bedding, and fill the galley with camp gear. Maiden voyage scheduled in the next few weeks or so. About time....

Had a very nice time on our first camp outing with the teardrop. It was a 4.5 hour tow from home. Got an amazing 22.5mpg @ 65mph with my 4cyl Colorado pickup doing the towing. That mpg was a pleasant surprise. Towed great.

A family member had rented a lakefront cabin in a very nice wooded area. So it was still in fact driveway camping. In a darn scenic driveway that's for sure. It was very nice to have toilet and shower facilities in a private home. The fire pit area had a great view of the lake. Put some time in on the swing facing the lake too.

Shakedown run showed that my brand new Coleman water jug leaks if not stored upright. My vintage camp stove which tested fine a couple years back would not pump up and light. Very handy to just go in the cabin and use the house stove after finding that out.

On the way home the camper got the water tight test in a torrential rain storm about 2 hrs. from home. Poured down in buckets. Only leak I found was a tail light on the hatch. Appears to have let water in from the wiring access hole. So have to have a look at that. Everything else was dry as a bone and sealed up tight.

Really looking forward to the next outing. Camp stove pump rebuild kit ordered and on the way. A few minor tweaks and I'm ready for trip number 2.

Thanks for the well wishes all.

Got the little glitches and water leak fixed that I found on the first trip. Took a quickie 2 night trip to a beautiful state park only 40mins. from my home. Just an amazing pine forest that smelled incredible. Had that north woods feel without all the driving time. I will return again soon! Here is a pic of when I just arrived and started to setup.

Headed out for the 3rd outing soon. Another short 3 day 2 night venture. Going to spend some time at the campsite experimenting on marrying a 10x10 canopy tent to the side of the tear. Been thinking over my options for awhile. I think I'm going to start with just a simple tarp rain fly between the camper door and the tent door. If I don't like that I may go with modifying the tent to butt against the camper. With camper door opening into tent directly.

A pic of the tent to adapt, and a couple shots of the teardrop interior in camp ready condition. I have some very fluffy down bedding on there. The leg clearance may look close, but you sink into the bedding quite a bit. It works out just fine.
