My new project need simple cad program advice

Postby Aaron Coffee » Tue Sep 08, 2020 5:05 pm

I am in the planning stages of building a replica 1920 Briggs and Stratton Buckboard Flyer.163114. Using a combination of plans, and ideas from a youtube video and original blueprints, that I found online. The blueprints were cut off and are missing the Y dimensions. I am looking for a simple, cheap cad program that I can import the blueprints to, and insert the dimensions that are there and generate the missing dimensions. I wont be using an original motorwheel rather taking cues from the you tube video.
Thanks
Aaron

These?

At least for the body, it would be fairly easy to reproduce on Sketchup. Do you need to do the whole nine yards?

Yes that would be the blueprints. Just need a couple of dimensions, then can figure out the rest from them.

You won't be able to import a clean CAD file from a pixelated PDF file (as far as I know).
You could try downloading a free trial version of Bluebeam. It's a PDF editing program that can help find measurements based on known dimensions.

The seats are only 15.5" wide. Does one cheek go in each...?

I caught that too. That would be a squeeze.

Aaron:

Cool project. What engine are you planning on using?

People came in different dimensions back then

Looking at the size of the engine, it may have been a subtle way to keep the payload weight under control.

Using a 3 hp briggs and stratton. https://youtu.be/lPDv_33CV4o. Plan is to do something similar to this engine setup, currently debating between an econo spare and a rear motorcycle wheel for the drive wheel. Plan on doing some measuring before I make seats.

Thanks, I downloaded free trail of Bluebeam and within 5 minutes I was able to generate the dimensions I needed. I always know that when I have odd requests/questions that someone can guide me in the right direction here. I plan on making a mockup of the seat to see if it will fit my girlfriend, although I will breach the questions carefully, or at least I will in my mind and it will come out of my mouth otherwise. Thanks again. I will post my progress, but it will be slow as finances allow.

I have never known such a scenario to transpire in any other way.
